Paramedic to RN 2015 Ivy Tech

U.S.A. Indiana

Just wondering if there is anyone out there that is planning on applying for the Ivy Tech Paramedic to RN program for 2015. I am getting all the necessary paperwork lined up and getting ready to take my TEAS in a couple weeks. Just curious how competitive it is and what I might be able to do to increase my score other than taking A&P 101 again.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

Depends on where you go.... the indianapolis campus had 100% acceptance for the last 2-3 years. In fact, they had so few EMT-P and LPN transition students apply that they actually merged the EMT-P's and LPNs together.

At other Ivy Tech campuses, though, I'm not sure of their acceptance rate. I will say, that despite the medic and LPN experience, tons and TONS of them are having difficulty finding a hospital based position due to the BSN push. I've been an ER LPN for 3 years and an ER RN for 3 months, and I know more medics who possess an ASN RN degree/license and they simply can't get hired anywhere.

Community and Hancock haven't put stock in the BSN yet. My buddy at Eskanazi told me they were trying to focus more on BSNs but I've not got verification on that outside of her saying so. St. V and IU / Methodist are out also more difficult to get into from my understanding without a BSN.

Also... please don't underestimate the power of networking. That is most important.

I think you'll be fine to apply to an Ivy tech anywhere!
