Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Hey, just seeing who's on here that will be applying with me. I'm applying to Muncie, Kokomo, and Ft. Wayne. I feel like this is all I think about already. I'm retaking a couple of pre reqs this summer to improve my score. I've already taken the teas but will probably retake it as I only received an 83. I've also attended all the nursing info sessions. What is everybody else doing to prepare? I'm so paranoid about forgetting something! I'm looking forward to talking with people in the same boat. Or if anyone who has already applied wants to share advice, I'd gladly listen!

hi my2girlskk...

congrats on getting ready to apply! i was planning on applying for the fall start date...but due to some fin. aid issues and the need to retake aphy 101 this semester and i still have to take aphy 102 this summer, i had to push back applying. but if all goes well with 102 i will be applying this september for spring 2011. most likely i will be applying for the lpn program though and then do the transition program after i complete that. right now i have 2 as (engl & psyc) and i really don't see myself getting above a b or c for 101. i know for 102 i will be doing face to face instead of online so i am hoping and praying that i can get a better grade!

have you taken the teas yet? i have not but i did take the practice test and did well except for the science portion.

Hi Emmi7! I will also be applying for the lpn program bc my home campus only offers the transisition and I like to finish there. Its about 10 min away while the other campuses I named are just short of an hour away. I have taken the teas but might retake it. I only got an 83. My worst part was science as well. I only scored a 70 on that part. I usually do better in face to face setting too, so I'm sure you'll do better! Good luck with that! What campus will you be applying to?

I will be applying at the Indy-Lawrence campus...I was also thinking about Kokomo, Anderson, and maybe Bloomington. I think those are the closest to me. But I haven't even looked to see if they offer the transition programs...to be honest I thought they all did. Wow I guess I need to go to some of their info sessions and do my research to make sure!

They might all offer transition. I know at marion that's the only thing they offer nursing wise. They're all a little different. Like ft wayne offers lpn and rn in the spring, while kokomo and muncie only offer lpn in the spring. Also for kokomo, they told me they only have 1 more info session and after that you can get the application online! That surprised me but they don't keep track of who attends anyway. There is no sign in sheet at all. I guess they assume if you have an app you must have gone!

oh wow well that is good news about kokomo! i just want to get in somewhere...anywhere!!

i think i am still going to apply for rn and lpn at each campus...just in case, maybe i might make it as an alternate and someone will decline and then boom i'm in! lol. but honestly i would be happy to get accepted for the lpn program really and if you go straight from there and do the transition i don't think it will be that off as far time wise than if you start the rn program initially.

You're right about it not being much different in time. Here you apply for transition by feb 1 and it starts in june. So if I get in this spring for lpn and immediately transition, ill be done may of 2013.

ughhh...when you say may 2013 it sound soo long though :crying2:

Ok question about doing the LPN program and then the LPN-RN transition and the timelines and stuff...I just want to make sure I have this right in my mind:)

If we apply by September 1st, 2010 and are accepted then we will start in January 2011.

So we will attend Spring 2011, Summer 2011, and Fall 2011 and be done with the LPN program in December of 2011. NOW, as I am reading through the application booklet if we apply by February 1st, 2012 for the LPN-RN transition program then we will attend Summer 2012 and Fall 2012 and be done, right? So it is just ONE semester later than if we do the ASN program from the beginning. I think I can live with that. Especially since during that one semester (Spring 2012) I can take the last two co-req's that I need.

Everything you said is how I understand it. Except you'd also attend spring 2013 and finish that may. This part is getting a littlw fuzzy but if I'm remembering this right, if you're transitioning less than 2 years after you get your lpn, you don't actually start til fall 2012. You would get summer 2012 off instead of taking the refresher course that summer. But it does equal only a semester later than if you would be accepted for asn for this spring. If u did asn in spring, you'd finish dec of 2012 . As opposed to May 2013 for lpn then transition.

Oh ok I get it! Now it makes sense lol. Thank you!!!

I really need to attend these info sessions. I went to one about a year ago but didn't pay attention to the LPN part because at the time I was thinking I'm going to get all A's and get in the RN program...this was before APHY lol:) obviously.

No problem! I'm glad to help. I didn't realize it when I first started looking into lpn then transition, but the classes are exactly the same. The first year, we would be side by side with the rn class. The transition starts where it left off but were taking the same exact classes as the asn programs. So really, the only difference is one semester and having to apply twice.
