WOW!!!!! I took my LPN in Indiana and moved to Kansas City right after I graduated within 1 year I am making $22/hr AS AN LPN!!! They start RN's at $29 and $5/hr shift diff. and if you work the weekend nights it is $10/hr plus the $5 pluse $29. If you work an extra shift you get $15/hr plus the $29/hr. We are moving back in December 2006 after I complete my LPN to RN bridge, sounds like I will make less than when I was an LPN. ICKKKK.....:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

I wonder if Indiana will ever catch up to the rest of the country. Dosn't seem like going back to Hoosierland will be a very good monetary deal for any of us.
Have a safe move in December.

I think you need to also consider the cost of living. I find that the cost of living goes up a lot when you move from laporte county to say st joseph county. You have to consider that when you are comparing state to state as well.

i like to go to salary.com they have a cost of living wizard. I looked up south bend, IN vs. Kansas City.

You are likely to make 2.7% higher salary in KS but the cost of living is 8.6% greater.

If you make 40,000 in Indiana you would have to make $43,500 in KS to maintain the same standard of living. Just something to consider when looking for a new job in a different state.

40,000 is a lot more in indiana than it would be in Ca for example.

I worked as a Pediactric office RN in Inianapolis until 8/06 making $17.25/hr - of course, no nights or weekends...now I work as a UM nurse, also no nights or weekends, making over $50,000/year - office nursing is not the only way to go to have good hours, and definitely not the way to go if you need to make good money.

That is a good wage for a LPN. Where in Indiana are you?

I am an LPN and make $18.00 at LTC. Thats day shift. It's $3 more an hour for weekends, $1 evenings and $2 nights. I am currently pursuing my RN and at local hospitals, new RN's usually start out at 19-20. At my LTC facility I will probably make $23.00 or more!

I work in northwest indiana at a hospital. i am registry there- which means i do not get benefits or paid time off, however i get much more an hour than base staff make. I am currently an LPN, will have my Rn in may '07. I make $23/hr. when i worked midnights i made $25/hr for shift differential. i believe staff LPn make around $15/hr...to me it is worth it to make more an hour. When i get my RN i will be making $34-36/hr. I love registry, i would recommend it to anyone that can go without benefits through work, like if you can get on your husbands- or even if you can purchase your own for cheaper. My friend works in a physicians office (cardiac doctors) and she only makes $13.75/hr. Unfortunately offic positions are not that high paying, at least in this area. hope this was helpful.

    Hello,
I moved to Indiana from Vegas with 6 months experience as a floor nurse. I now work in an ICU. They basically put me in their new graduate program because I didn't know anything ICU-related. When I was looking at this site for what salaries to expect I was disappointed, I found it highly inaccurate and was sure I was taking a HUGE paycut. I know some posters will be upset that I wrote this but seriously you need to know what is offered to get excited about what is really paid.
Starting pay in the major Indianapolis hospitals is 20-21/hour weekdays
If you work at night you get 23-25/hour for weekdays.
If you work weekend days you get 25-26/hour.
If you work weekend nights you get about 30/hour.
If you work special shifts where you either work holidays or commit to being on weekends permanently for the year you can make from 35-48/hour.
They also offer overtime which ranges from 1.5 your pay to twice it per hour. That can potentially be 60/hour.
It is amazing to be able to make 70grand your first 2 years out of school. I know I went to an expensive school so it is fabulous to make such good money to pay off my loans.
Good luck, you picked a very lucrative career!

The state of Indiana is much more than the areas around Indianapolis

You guys in Indy GENERALLY do well. The rest of us take a whoopin'!!!

Nurses in some of the other counties do very well ($). Others have gotten left behind in on the wage scale. I got my info on my local hospital STRAIGHT from HR, a local nursing chool dean and three students, pals of mine who had just graduated.

Yes, there are hospitals in Indiana what will pay a new grad RN $17-19 per hour.

If it were not for the lower cost of living in Indiana, many nurses in this state might REALLY be hurting.

    YMMV.
