Anyone taking/taken Medical Terminology??

U.S.A. Indiana

I was just wondering why Medical Terminology is not one of the required courses for the ASN?? Maybe I am just missing something.

But if I'm not has anyone taken this course and if so did you find it helpful?

Thanks!

I took it last fall and yes, I found it helpful in APHY 101 and 102. However, I still have the book and can't say that I've ever gotten it off the bookshelf to reference it while taking 101 or 102. So, I think it's good to take if you have the time but not if you are already full with other required courses. Of course, I'm not in the nursing program yet, so I don't know how much it is helpful or not for those classes.

Thanks! I think I will go ahead and take it. Was it difficult?? Did you attend online or face to face?

I took it online (so did kgle) in an 8-wk class. It is not 'hard', but just requires a lot of memorization, but it's not like there are hard concepts to understand. It's just all memorization. If you are taking it along with a few other classes I would recommend taking it in a full term rather than the 8 wk so it is more spread out.

Thank you so much. You and KGLE have been so helpful. As I was looking through the Fall 09 schedule I saw a lot of online classes for the full 16 week term for Med. Term. These are the classes I am planning on taking:

ENGL 111 (on campus-16wks),

PSYC 101 (online-16wks),

MATH 050 (online-8wks),

APHY 101 (online-8wks),

IVYT 105 (online-8wks),

And then possibly dropping my SOCI 164 for the Medical Terminology.

What do you guys think?? Anyone?

I'm just curious why you are planning to take Aphy 101 in 8 wks instead of 16. I would spread it out into 16 if at all possible. I took it online last spring in 16 wks. so I know it is doable to do it online, but why make it harder on yourself if you don't have to? i.e. if you are not planning on taking 102 in the second 8 wks, then why smoosh 101 into the first 8 wks. Esp. with all the other credits you want to take. Because you are having a baby soon too correct? Yikes that is a lot. I'm almost done with Aphy 102 online this summer (my class is 10 wks long) but I only took it in the shorter summer to be able to apply by Sept 1 for Spring start nursing. Otherwise I would always recommend taking the sciences in the full 16 wks.

I took psych many many years ago at a Michigan college, so I don't have much opinion on Ivy TEch's online psych or whether it's best in 8 wks or 16. Kgle would have more to say about that one.

CSAB...

Yes I know I seem nuts to be taking it in 8 wks but in order for me to be able to apply by April 1st for the Fall 2010 start date then I would have to since there is that semester in between rule. Plus I have to complete MATH 050 prior to taking it (so I am doing that the 1st 8 wks and then APHY 101 the 2nd 8 wks.)

I am nervous but it will only be 2 other classes (Eng and Med. Term) along with APHY. So I am hoping those won't be too difficult to take along with APHY 101.

And yes...I am due 12/29/2009...I know I am really pushing it and will probably regret it too!

Ahh, okay I wasn't realizing that you have to take the math class first. I get it now LOL! Now that you say that I vaguely remember discussing this on some other thread, because I remember saying that usually 101 is only offerred the first 8 wks, but you found one that is the second 8 wks.

Yep! You and KGLE are so helpful! I remember asking you for advice initially when I started planning my classes. Ive stuck with those mostly except for Med. Term...I think I might benefit from that one.

I almost want to go retake the Math portion of the Compass and see if I can score better in the Algebra section but then again I really do need it.

Hey everyone! I am just finishing the 8 wk online Medical Terminology, in hopes that it will help me in AP classes - I've heard how hard they are... Medical Terminology was alot of memorization, and I admit ALOT of information to take in, but I do feel better prepared now. I would recommend taking it!!

You definitely have a full plate with all these classes AND a new baby on the way!! It will be so worth it, when you're all done!

What are you going for? if you are going for nursing or something in the medical field... medical term would be required and it is so easy to take. probably one of the easiest classes. So take it before you big classes start. Google Quizlet and you can make virtual flashcards and print them out and also play games with them. The computer will quiz you. You do this you will Ace anything that has terms ad vocab for any class.

I just finished the summer 8 week course of Med Term and it was an extremely easy class. However, you get a lot of information that you need. I'm not sure why it isn't required especially since we really need to know this information before taking our nursing classes.

I would suggest taking it. It's not difficult and it gives definite need to know info.

Good luck!:yeah:
