TEAS Test--Study Buddy

I'm not really sure how you can study for the science part of it. The questions are ridiculously specific. You can "offset" this by getting higher scores in the other areas and scoring high on the reasoning.

You actually CANNOT offset it completely because many colleges (that use the TEAS) set "cut" scores in subject areas that must be met BEFORE they will even look at your overall score. For Ivy Tech I believe that the cut score on the science portion is 70 or 80. Thus, someone could score an 88 overall, but only a 69 in Science and they wouldn't even be considered (despite their overall score being somewhat higher than many people who met all of the minimums). With that said the science on the TEAS is fairly basic. I would start with the study guide and look at the rationale behind each of the answers. Then, I would probably get something like a Cliff's notes for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics focusing on the BROAD concepts in each (as opposed to the formulas ect).

I took the TEAS and I did very well on it. Our cutoff for science was 60 I scored 75 on that portion. Best study advice GET THE ATI TEAS STUDY GUIDE.--#2 GUESS--GUESS---GUESS. That's what I did. I knew I was in trouble when I had the study guide & barely understood some of the explanations. The actual science portion of the test was harder than it was in the study guide.... Some of the questions I knew the answers to, but there were a few that I didn't even understand the question. (thats where the guessing comes in) When you take the TEAS test it breaks down the areas that you did poorly in. ex: physical science, human body science, general science.-- Try to remember the types of questions you got & get a tutor for the areas you were weak in. I am the only one of my friends that has passed the science portion of the test & I consider myself very fortunate because it was soooo hard. I wish I could help, but even though I score 75 it could have just as easily been 60.-- You are so close, don't give up

I got a 90% on the Science portion of the TEAS despite my overall score only being 88% (English brought my overall score way down thanks to a 78% showing). There were some questions about the food chain ie. biomass and the best way to get a random sample in a corn field (of a beatle or something) that I felt tested your "IQ" more than your scientific knowledge. I also remember there was at least one question on Lewis structures/ "electron bonding", basically you had to pick out which molecule COULD actually exist (just keep in mind that H forms only one bond, Oxygen two, and Carbon three, and you shouldn't miss this question). In addition, there were several questions that tested your knowledge of the "scientific method" and the BEST way to set of an experiment (you want large, random, trials where all variables except the one you are attempting to TEST are controlled).

Ok now I am a pre nursing student I took the TEAS Teast at 1:00 p.m. completely freaking out. you know this is my entery... Well I study the booklet that we all pay for about a total of 10 hours, and found a maxium of 5 question pretaining or remotely similiar- I took anatomy1&2 in 04, I passed the TEAS Test and thought it was very easy and I hated the fact that I paniced for practically nothing! So if you know you pretty much paid attention in your classes then you'll do fine, brush up on basic algebra, and a little science (the basics nothin in depth). The Englich part was way to easy; the test gives you 65 min for 55 questions, I finished in 35 minutes. If you have a hard time writting a paper then you might want to read the work book, I can say the English portion was the most helpful.

I agree with you. I didn't think it was that bad. I didn't study at all and got 92.4.

Can anyone help me i just saw my score, indiviual, national and program, does anyone have idea what college will be looking at it??

They will look at YOUR marks for the TEAS only. When you apply to a nursing school, then that group of applicants will be given a "mean" score from all the TEAS scores combined but only from that particular group.
They will then pick the highest TEAS scores to be in their program..........and go down the list until all the spots are filled. They also put a certain number of students on a waiting list incase any of the accepted applicants decline the offer.

Don't bother looking at the National average or the program average. It basically means nothing. and just can scare the crud outta you for nothing. Every applicant group of students have a different "mean" average.

re: teas test I am getting ready to take the test in a week. I have been out of school for 12 years and I am really freaking out and I am so afraid I am not going to pass it. I just started studying and some things have come back to me . Is it really that bad? What are some of the HARDEST things I need to worry about? Am I worrying this much for nothing? I am allowed to take the test 2 times which is a good thing, but I only want to take it once. If there is any advise from anyone who has taken it recently I am willing to listen. Thanks
