To all current and former CNA students

I am currently in a CNA program and our instuctor informed us that we will have to perform 5 skills for the state exam. She said you draw your assigned skill test out of a pile of papers (like a deck of cards).
She said the State Board Testing Administrator will give you a short story to go along with your paper. Like ex: Mr.Jones is a stroke resident and his right side is affected. And your skill could be denture care. So your skills would be 1. hand washing 2.gloving 3. assist to side of the bed 4.assist to chair 5.denture care

I start clinicals monday ((super nervous & excited))
they say you will learn the skills as you use them and practice them.
they tell you to read read read
and go over them at home too.
when is your test?

It has been quite awhile since I did my CNA training, but if you keep in mind it is really just common sense - as in what logically comes next - you will do fine! I always put myself in the patients place (in my mind of course) and thought what would I want or expect next and never had an issue.

I'm the program director for CNAs. You have to learn all of the RCPs. The way the students are tested on their skills is as follows: one by one they go into the bathroom to wash their hands with the testor. At that time, she flips through several pages and the student picks one; they are not allowed to know which they picked until actually entering the procedure site. The state testor will call you into the room. With each skill you have up to 3 chances to perform it correctly. They can give you clues if they tell you to stop, so listen to them carefully. Most importantly, learn the RCPs and be confident in yourself! Good luck!
