Please forgive my ignorance but I have seen so many threads about "RN Residency" program but no one explains it. Can someone please tell me what is the RN Residency program, what are the perks and benefits of it, and do you apply at school or at a hospital????
Thanks so much for any responses and advice!
Have a great day!

I know you posted this several weeks ago, but thought I'd reply. When I graduated in 1978, I went into an RN residency program. I was hired by the hospital & the first 3 weeks were all classroom; pretty much review of lots of stuff from school. After that, we worked (with a preceptor, of course) on the unit a few days a week & did classroom the other days. The classroom then became more of a skills lab to improve on things like starting IV's. The residency lasted 3 months and was an extremely valuable experience.

I realize this may be dead but while I'm here let me ask what places have RN residency programs specifically in Chicago, IL?
