What happens after Passing nclex??

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello all,

I recently graduated from Daley college, passed that dreaded Hesi exam, paid my $85 to Continental Testing Services, paid $200 to register for Nclex, took the exam on july 13th, found out i passed 48 hours later, and today i received a letter in the mail with my picture and social security number saying that i passed. But along with that letter i got another paper saying that in order to practice i still needed my license. I am asked to send in another $50 along with a portion of the sheet labeled "Application For Licensure" and am to send it to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. I am curious, all the students i've spoken to said they hadnt received a letter asking to send in more money. I was going to call them and ask what this was all about but being Saturday the office was closed. I thought that after paying the $85 to the CTS, and the $200 to take the nclex, it was all over. I have no problem paying the money, but it just seems odd that non of my fellow graduates had heard of such a letter.

When i saw that, all i could ask was.."Did i file something wrong??

Anyone have any insight as to this new $50 check they are asking for.

Thanx in advance

I am a LPN and I had to pay those same fees. The fees you paid already were as you stated to Continental Testing and Pearson Vue for the NCLEX test itself. Now you must pay the State of Illinois in order to receive a copy of your license. Although organizations are able to look your license up on the web you still need to pay this fee and have a copy of your license to give to employers. That letter is standard and completely normal. Have your classmates taken and passed their boards? That may be why they didnt receive their letter. You just got your letter first, thats all. Congrats.

Thanx for your response.

I spoke to students that graduated and passed nclex last year. They all have said all they paid for after nclex was to view whether they had passed or not online. which was like $8. Nothing after that. Yet they still received their license by mail a few weeks later. Those that have taken and passed nclex this year have said the only letter they have received was the one with their picture and their "pass" status. Not the actual "application for licensure" letter that came along with my "pass" document from NCSBN. I am going to call the Illinois board of nursing just to make sure everything is ok later on today while at work. I didnt know if this $50 fee was to expedite my license delivery or if indeed i needed to pay the fee in order to receive my license at all. I took and passed the nclex july 13th and i still dont see my name on the IDFPR website. Maybe i do need to pay the $50 fee first. I was going to send in the check sunday, but thought i'd try to get a hold of the Illinois BON and clarify before i sent anything in. I'm ready to start orientation as an new RN!!!

thanx again for your response, i feel a little more at ease knowing im not the only one that has to pay additional license fees. I honestly thought i had somehow messed up in the filing process.

where did you get a job?

that is completely normal... its a 3 step process. congrats!!!

where did you get a job?

Has other new grads who received this passing NCLEX paper also got the application for licensure? It says I have to pay $50 to the Illinois' Division of Professional Regulation and that I can practice as an RN with "license-pending" for 3 months after my pass date. ?? How are the new nurses practicing as an RN while they've just passed their NCLEX?

i just found out thru pearson vue that i passed the nclexrn. so yea when does the letter come in? how long does it take? i took mine on dec.7. anyone already practicing here, how did u guys get the license in the mail? how long did it take? paid 50?
