Uic..... Help!

U.S.A. Illinois

Is anyone taking the BSN program at UIC? if so would you recommend it to a transfer student. Is it competitive to get in? what about the program itself? I am currently working on my pre-reqs in a community college and I would really appreciate your help:no:

I am a junior in the BSN program at UIC and I am just starting my second semester. The first semester was the biggest academic challenge of my life but I learned very much. The vast majority of the staff here is qualified and helpful. The great thing about UIC is the clinical experience, they really let you go out there and practice your skills (this is in comparison to friends at Rush and ISU). I would definately recommend this program.

It is very competitive and each year it becomes more difficult to get in. The average GPA of our admitted class was a 3.75 and pretty much all of us had some kind of experience in health care even if it was just volunteer. If you have good grades, any experience, and write a kick ass essay explaining your goals as a nurse you should get in. I actually transfered into UIC from a community college and many of my peers did too, so it doesn't seem to matter to them where you did your prereqs just that you did them well.

If you have anymore questions I would be happy to answer them for you. Good luck to you!

Hi!

I am also in UIC's BSN program second semester, and I won't lie, it is tough to get in. You really have to have excellent grades, meaning more A's than B's in especially your science prereqs, and your recommendation letters and essay have to say why you want to be a nurse. It's important also that you keep in mind that last year, 800 people applied for 90 spots. So make your application competetive.

It is a wonderful program. Very challenging, rigorous, and organized. The teachers do EVERYTHING possible to help you succeed here. They figure, if you got in here, you must be motivated, and they really try so hard to help students succeed. I'm glad I chose UIC. :D

Thanks a lot guys! i really appreciate your time to answer my questions.:)

Anyone know if UIC requires you to take the NLN exam for admission? From what I've read, that test freaks me out! :o

No, UIC doesn't require testing to gain entrance. They look at your recommendation letters and your grades mostly.

Thanks Sally! Do you go to UIC?

I also think the essay is a big factor. Have someone else read it before sending it in. Make sure it sticks out from the rest. They are big on diversity at UIC so I would touch on that as much as possible. Good luck!

I think quite a few people send in their applications without all the courses completed. I think i was still missing one or two courses when I sent mine in. Good luck!
