UIC BSN for Fall 2013 applicants...

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello all,

I applied to UIC for their BSN program for fall 2013. SUPER stressed about it. If anyone else has applied, you know they have very specific pre reqs, so if I don't get in here, I will have taken a ton of classes for nothing :( I've been reading some posts from this time last year, and it sounds like the most important things are your GPA, essays, and letters of recommendation. My GPA is only a 3.54. I think my essays were pretty good- I have quite a bit of experience in hospitals, as a patient and employee, and I did well with writing papers in the past. I had a professor from UIC (who is also a professor at City Colleges of Chicago that taught my Microbio class) write one of my letters of recommendation, and my CNA instructor from Truman write the other. I got my CNA certification over this past summer, specifically to help with my application to UIC. So I work in a hospital now. I was hoping to have been able to keep my 4.0 GPA, becuase with my work experience I figured they would kind of have to take me. But now with my lower GPA I'm freaking out! Anyone gone through this in the past? Any words of wisdom? Anyone not made it in, and applied the next year?

Has anyone waitlisted heard any news?

No I have not heard anything have you?

@Currybread

Thanks for the wishes! Sorry I was not able to respond right away but @S1swooshS2 did a great job answering all of your questions! She is definitely right about the schedule, clinical, and textbooks. The exams are mostly multiple choice. I remember in Patho|Phys, our exams were 100 multiple choice questions and we had 2 hours to take the exams. First year vs. Second year. In my opinion, first year was mostly getting your basics down and second year, more independence especially in clinical. Also, you go to class like once a week and clinical twice a week so second year was, for me, less stressful.

Haha I hadn't checked this in so long since no one had responded...guess I should have. I got waitlisted and haven't heard anything. Does anyone know how they are going to update or contact us? Email? Mail?

I'm pretty sure it will be via email. Good luck! :)

^Also, they look at the list up until like the week before school starts!

I received an email this morning that I've been removed from the waitlist! I'm in guys!! I'm so excited! In tears!

I was removed as well!! Congrats!

Congrats! I knew we were in!

That's awesome guys!!! Congrats!!! Now does anyone know about everything we.have to do? there is so much stuff that is required like immunization, CPR class, drug tes,t background test... do you guys know where we take the CPR class??I'm so confused and frustrated

Still on the list....but could they really not give me a number? If it isn't a lottery, then I have a rank. I find it kind of inconsiderate that they just let you sit and have no idea what is going on. I left my name on the list but am 99% cutting my losses. Will be going to either Ressurection or Chamberlain- depending on where I can finish faster. Congrats to those that don't have to agonize over this anymore...

Ariba, I'm pretty frustrated about all the other requirements too. The CON website says they want all the documents by july 1, but then the website says that there will be more info about cpr classes at orientation? It's contradicting and confusing. I was expecting more info in the letters than just "more info will be provided in the summer.." Especially since they want all the paperwork so soon. I will call them when I have my questions organized. I am currently doing what I can and getting my immunizations processed. Taking the TB test next week...
