UIC BSN applicants for fall 2012

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

hi guys

Jan 15th has passed and now its time for the wait, I am pretty nervous because UIC is my number one choice and I would really love to start this BSN program in the fall. Its one of the best schools out there for nursing not only in the state, but in the entire US. Their grad programs are ranked among the best. So I am sure you guys want it just as bad as I do. Now its just time to wait till late April to find out whats going to happen.

who has applied to this program? and are you guys pretty nervous about this whole process? what do you guys think they are looking for in an applicant? what do you think is the deciding factor outside of just total package? is it GPA, medical experiance, essays, letters of reccomendation, etc..????

It was a pretty long application process so I know you guys are dedicated and put the time in. So lets hope for the best, feel free to join this thread at anytime.

Hi guys!

I applied to the Urbana campus and instead of getting an email my nursing advisor called me personally to tell me I was accepted! I checked my application status but it still said in review. It might be faster in Urbana because we have a smaller amount of applicants so they go through it faster. You guys will probably not hear from email for a while but if you call the admission office or the nursing advisor they might know already but just haven't sent out the decisions yet. Good luck guys!

I was very shocked to see UIC last year was at 88 percent... i was going to go to a school in wisconsin this spring because I might live there in the future and I wonder what those ratings are like, anyway I am very very nervous. its only a matter of time now... maybe sometime early next week we will know who got in. Do you think people that have a 3.9 or 4.0 gpa applying have a head up on people with 3.6 and 3.7. ? i mean the obvious answer is yes, but is it that much of a bigger gap?? do you think UIC really takes grades into account 33% of the decision or is it more given these ratings of 88 percent NCLEX pass rate?? there goal is to bring it up I hope. I wonder if they will get in based off of that " gpa" if they had some experience in health care with decent essays, not even great essays.

@momo11

they said that emails will go out early to mid april... they really stressed the fact emails will go out asap... I truly believe they are done reviewing the applicants and they are just grouping everyone and getting ready to send out a mass email to those who got in, wait listed, and rejected as well as letters. Its now april 6th, and after this weekend I feel it will be sometime next week when we find out... if you dont mind me asking. what was your gpa and medical experience and etc?

......

it's really hard to tell. most people that applied to uic are legit candidates and would do well in the program- it's just a matter of only choosing 90 something students out of 900. gpa, essays, experience help but they can only go so far. i think there's some luck thrown into the choices as well. don't take it too personal if you don't get in. there are tons of other nursing schools to apply to. just remember, everything happens for a reason. someday you'll see why things happen the way they did. :) about nclex scores: you can look up any schools in any state through the board of nursing which is a government site for each state. the tricky part is finding it. :) good luck!! don't worry too much, i know that's way easier said than done but still give it a try!

you are awesome kate!!! you are going to make an amazing nurse fyi! you have a great way of looking at things honestly. its just crazy to know that this school is many peoples top choice and dream nursing school. i know its mine for sure, ohh yea. luck is for sure... but luck = preparation + opportunity.

I don't know how much different the UIC one is from the UIUC one but my nursing advisor told me that the most important first is GPA, essays, experience, then letters of recommendation. Personally my GPA wasn't as high (3.57) compared to the average admitted but my essay, experience, and letters of recommendation was pretty solid. I took a CNA course last summer in 2011 and got certified as well. My medical experience came from that because I've done clinicals at nursing homes and I've also volunteered as a camp counselor for children with neuromuscular disease so I had an adequate amount of experience with providing care especially to people with physical disabilities. As for letters of recommendation, my nursing advisor told me that usually when you get a recommendation from a nurse (especially one with higher education like getting their Masters) it holds some weight. Hope this helps but like I said, the admittance process can be very different!

From what I heard, decisions have been made already but they're just slow on emailing. If you can, try calling to see if you got admitted!

thanks Momo11 for your very detailed response...

you have great great medical experience, I too have my CNA and I let them know that, I had great experience working with senior citizens and I also have another 2 years of medical experience besides that. so medical experience is good for me. my gpa is high and letters of rec should be solid. essays are so so for me, i think they could have been written better. hopefully the medical experience and letters of rec balance it out.

your gpa is still solid. and you make a very very well rounded candidate . why dident you apply for UIC location? do you live down south??

and as far as calling them, they never ever pick up.

hi guys,

i'm trying to calm myself down to not worry about the result but i could not. btw congratulation to momo 11!!! ^__^

I got email that I didn't get in. I email them back about the reason why I didn't and I will know by April 16. Sad but now I don't have to worry about $60,000 for my tuition. Good luck guys!

I just got my acceptance email! Unfortunately I will not be attending because I'm going to Mennonite college of nursing at Illinois state. Who else got accepted???

anybody got waitlisted? I got an email that I didn't get in unfortunately...:( I'm very sad. Wondering how many people got waitlisted...
