Truman Nursing Application Extension

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Does anyone have any scoop on why Truman College suddenly, little more than a week before the application deadline, extended it for another month? On their Website there is an announcement that the deadline has been extended until March 1. However, they provide no explanation as to why (or how it will affect the decision process and timeline). I highly doubt they don't have enough applicants unless they are rethinking their entrance guidelines, which wouldn't surprise me, but would also be somewhat shady this late in the game. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything going on, or if it's just a ploy to get a bigger pool of applicants.

Baila, I have a good relationship with my previous nursing instructor (I withdrew), and told her about what the wright CNA instructor had told me about Truman being on probation and she said that every 8 years they get accreditated, so Truman was receantly visited and found a few minor things that need to be improved, but that Truman is accreditaded again for the next 8 years! That is good to hear! She also said that they will only need to send paperwork within 2 years to show the minor things that needed improvement were corrected, but Truman was NOT going to be visited by them till the once mentioned 8 years.

Truman has the BEST nursing program out of all city colleges. its absurd that its program is on probation. As for the new application process, anyone heard anything yet?

Thanks, Ruby 2623 and hanwinting. I knew that wasn't the issue. Truman's program is supposed to be excellent. I'm very anxious to hear if I was accepted or not. Oh well, have to wait a little longer...

Ruby, I'm sorry to hear you withdrew from the program. Are you re-applying for next year? Perhaps we will be in the same class!

i am still waiting too. i ONLY want to go to truman program. No daley no malcom!! I hope ccc is not doing district wide policy.

did you take all the pre- req??

Thank you baila,

yes, I was working too many hours at my job, so my grades were affected, so I withdrew so my GPA wouldnt be affected.

Now, I have to take nursing 140 in the summer (the one LPNs who are bridging to RN take), hopefully the class is not too hard. In addition, I have to wright an intention of readmission letter to be readmitted, it is a different process than regular admission, they only save a few seats for readmits, hopefully I am one of them. So hopefully we both will be accepted!!

Sorry zzb13, I typed baila, but my response was to you, sorry

I'm taking my last class this semester. I actually was going to take it last semester, but I didn't think the teacher was very good, and it is a difficult class (227). I applied to the nursing program last year but didn't have enough points. I hope we all get in. I have been waiting MONTHS...and it is really hard. I will be so excited if I am to start nursing school in the Fall, but I am also very, very nervous. I worry about a lot of things, like clinicals, failing......messing up with a patient...the list is endless. Did you finish the first semester, Ruby? What was the greatest difficulty? What about you, handwinting, did you finish all the classes yet?

I wonder if extending the deadline allowed a lot more people to apply. It all seems strange, because the number of classes taken wouldn't change--this semester's grades won't count. So what's the deal? I really don't get it!

I should have enough points to get in. But I am worried anyway. They can change the rules and then I will have a big problem!

ya i finished taking all classes last semester. how many pts did you have when you applied last year?

I am only missing 3 pts off max pts. If they are gonna do the district wide policy, i am really worried. It is gonna be competitive.

I only had 60 last year, oh well. The ranking point cut off the year before was 56, so I thought I had a chance. I couldn't fit one more class into my schedule.

Hm... I went to the info session at Truman last night and not a single word about taking online applications or centralizing the application (now or in the future). Nothing. I wonder if this is only for OHC and KKC students this year, or anyone else who happens upon this page...

It seems like so many things are different now. There's not even a mention of API and APII needed to apply. Also, Wright is...at least the one in HP...and LPN program...that program, I don't think you even needed Chemistry..just the API and APII. I'm sure there are a lot of people who have already turned in their applications so what if what they thought needed to be taken in order to apply is completely different? Also for the LPN program at Wright, you have to go to an information session there and you get the application there and have to hand it in right there and then. They won't let you take the application with you. I don't see why they just didn't leave things as it was and start the new requirements for next year or they should have been changed before people started applying.

I heard...not sure how true it is or not.. that people where going to get routed to whatever school they lived closest to.
