Hi~ St. Joseph is part of the Resurrection Health Care system, one of about 10? hospitals now. It's the largest Catholic hospital system in Chicago. My first job two years ago was with another Res hospital. I left after a year, it wasn't for me. They're not among the top hospitals in Chicago. St. Joseph though is probably one of the better ones, I'd say, along with Resurrection Medical Center, which is pretty far north. Last I heard, St. Joe's still does paper charting. Some people like that though. That's really all I know. Good luck with your decision!

    Hi there,
It would be Med/Surg....I am also a new graduate, any info would be greatly appreciated. Do you know where St. Joseph's ranks amoung other Chicago hospitals?

The more important question is if the shift they are offering you fits your needs.

    Hi,

I had my CNA studentshave some clinical experiences there. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Of course you'll get a few people here and there who don't seem to 'play well with others' - why they ever chose to be nurses, I'll never understand! If I had a choice about where to work, I'd pick 11 then 8 then 5.

By the way, the D.O.N. Is Great as is Beth Cadiz, she is the nurse educator there.

I work at St. Joseph. 8th and 11th floor are med/surg and they're pretty tough except you get CNAs which is a life saver. Tele is super hard, and ICU/CCU are really nice.

there's openings for psych, diamond headache unit (a modern day opium den), and some of the labs too.

we're pretty desperate so you can probably work you way into a acute care setting if you want.

you pay for parking each month, you get 2500 (1600 after taxes) back on your college tuition every 6 months, which is nice.

I dunno... you have to start somewhere right, and you can't go to a nice hospital until you pay your dues somewhere else.

The nicest thing about st. josephs is that some of the floors, depending on shift, have awesome people working with you. If you're not on one of those floors though, good luck.

Agreed with TG911. Tele is super-hard a lot to do with little tech time. Another thing that makes St. Joseph interesting is they still have paper charting. ICU and I think CCU are now electronic, with plans to incorporate the entire hospital, but as of right now all the other units are still on paper.
