Sign On Bonus in Chicago for New Grads?

Hi all,

I am strongly considering moving to chicago when i graduate this may. Unfortunately I can't find any info on whether any hospitals up there are still offering sign on bonuses. Down here (southern IL, and St. Louis) they are still about 5,000 a year. Are these a thing of the past in chicago??

Also, if anyone knows of any nice hospitals to work at (preferrably ER) towards the northwest suburbs that would be great. I would be willing to commute some.

As a December 2007 grad in Chicago, I had job offers from all hospitals I applied, but no offer of a sign-on bonus.

Mt. Sinai Hospital has a bunch of sign-on and continuity bonuses. Size of bonus depends on unit. I think the lowest is $3,000 (that's for a new grad).

Look up a position under careers --> staff nurse. They have the sign on and continuity bonus posted for that particular position.

When applying for jobs to the larger university hospitals in the Chicago area, I did not come across any institution that were offering sign on bonuses. I believe Loyola University Medical Center did a few years back but that is no longer the case now.

enh does for new grads only, up to $7500 depending on how many hours you will work

UofC has a $7500 sign on bonus for oncology telemetry, but I've heard they would prefer not to take new grads.

Lincoln Park Hospital had offered me $5000 (with years of experience) last year. But they offered a lower pay, and I rejected.:twocents::down:

If a hospital offers a sign on bonus I would be concerned there might be potential problems there.

i don't think it necessarily indicates a potential problem with the hospital....as an update, i was incorrect in calling it a signing bonus apparently. thats how it was described by the recruiter but the person who processes it in HR (who i was talking to for more info on it) stated that its actually more of a tuition forgiveness policy.

Be wary if you are a new grad and they are offering you a large sign on bonus. I have heard from numerous new grads the hospital is usually horrible and they grad end up quitting and having to pay them back! If it is a sign on due to your expertise it is a different story. No one wants to hire new grads right now, if they are giving you a sign on RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION!!!!

The only Hospital I have heard that still give sign on bonus is Loretta Hospital, but you need at least 2 years experience!

There are no sign on bonuses for new grads. there are very few jobs for new grads at hospitals.
