Run far away from malcolm x

sad to say, but my first semester at Malcolm-X is going horrible! UNORGANIZED from the very beginning, syllabus and professors changed several times as well as test dates. we haven't had a lab instructor the whole semester! meaning we haven't had proper instruction before going to clinicals! This school should seriously be someone's last option, if they couldnt get in anywhere then consider Malcolm-X....unfortunately this school is conveniently located between both of my jobs...and i would probably lose a year if i do transfer :/ (i shouldve gone to a masters program with my B.S. in Bio, but lacked $) Last final today, was canceled at the last minute because teachers gave us "study focus points" a study line that every college student gets in COLLEGE credited classes ( that we have been giving every test before this, but because of 1 teacher who felt her position being threatened pulled some strings and got the Dean to cancel the test) no notice was given until we demanded a meeting with the PResident of the school, as of right now, NO REAL CHANGE HAS OCCURRED...we have tried and tried to stress to the administration that one specific faculty member of the Nursing Program is bringing the whole program down, no response, no REAL ANSWER. (if u want the name of the teach to avoid in this program message me) Later during the day as he met us after 30 of us deep interrupted his meeting, introducing us to the new lab teacher! WTH last day of school and we r just getting a lab instructor, HORRIBLE....ive got more examples if anyone is interested, i just wished i had to talked to old students before I got myself into this mess :o

I'm sorry your school is so disorganized. I have heard the same things about other CCC Nursing programs. A lot of schools brag about NCLEX pass rates but don't talk about retention rates. (((HUGS)))

thanks for the encouragement. I am prepared to study on my own these next 3 semesters, it just shouldn't be like that. Yes, I agree it is a CCC problem not just my school going through this.

This is horrible but you will do fine and be stronger because of it!

HoopZ20,

Is Malcolm X nursing program that bad? I applied there plus Truman and Daley, but haven't receive an acceptance letter. Is any of these nursing instructors good? Which one would you recommend/avoid?

Thanks

There are avenues for disputes and as a student you should be able to find out what yours at your school.

Posting instructor's names on the internet just isn't cool - we have many educators who frequent our site and many times posters are easily identifiable.

While generalizations about a school are okay, its not okay to name names - this brings it into the libel arena and none of us want to go there.

Please take your complaints up with your school. Good luck in school.

I apologize about the names. I could have left them out. However, what happen to freedom of speech? Is this an open forum? My intension is not libel, but simply getting an idea on instructors teaching methods. TraumaRUs, have you ever asked classmates/friends whether instructor x is better than instructor y? Whose teaching method is more effective? I'm sure we all have. As consumers, we compare to gather information.

Exchanging opinions in a private conversation is a far cry from posting that same information, names included, on an international website for millions of people to read.

Look at it this way: If an instructor had issues with your performance, would you find it acceptable for him/her to post that information on a website? The local newspaper? The school bulletin board? Probably not.

You would expect the courtesy and respect of a private conversation. Your instructor expects (and deserves) the same.

Good point. But how come it is OK to name names in positive experiences? I came across posting where instructor names are listed. So it is not allowed in negative experiences? Or because instructors visit the site?

As a potential student at the college, I want to learn more about instructors from another student's perspectives. Whose wants to be stuck with a horrible instructor, waste time, and money? These are opinions not libel. This is just my method.

Secondly, instructors should not shy away from negative comments. If everything is great, the posting would not have been created. There must be some legitimacy. Also, students from the college could disagree with the original posting.
