Resurrection University (West Suburban College of Nursing) Spring 2011 applicants

U.S.A. Illinois

Hi all!

I'm in a process of applying to the Resurrection University (formerly West Suburban College of Nursing) for BSN Spring 2011 program (generic 16 months option). I started this thread to get and give some support along the process. Let's help each other out and maybe get know better before the semester starts! I'm about to start my final (fall) semester at Wilbur Wright College, I already took the TEAS exam, submitted my online application, letters of recommendation and essay. I'm just waiting for my official transcript with summer school grades. I'll be going for the guaranteed admission program. If anyone has questions or just want to share his/hers experiences- please post your comments! GOOD LUCK Y'ALL !! :)

Hey Ajryan! When did you email the coordinator? I know that there is a break starting December 16th but the offices are open till Dec. 22nd meaning that secretaries and stuff are at school. I would call the admission counselor Juan Miranda, he seems like he knows what's going on (I always bug him when I have a problem or a question). Do you know how to access and check your schedule from your student account? All of my classes and labs are in there. Good luck to you and have happy holidays as well :)!

thanks! I called last week. I'll call John on monday. I check my online schedule everyday to see if they've added it - no luck yet. The week of registration they said they hadn't done it yet and my schedule hasn't changed since. All my classes and labs are there, too, just no clinical.

Hey guys,

I emailed the clinical coordinator a few weeks ago re the clinical placements and whether we would have a preference. She said that she will be speaking with us on orientation day to obtain our preferences. I believe the clinicals don't start until term D (the second half of the winter semester). I would assume that there will be different time/day offerings as well as different locations/institutions but I am unsure.

The Nurse kit is cheap in quality but convenient. I recommend buying a good quality stethoscope and not use the one in the kit. I have the Patho textbook if anyone is interested. It will save you a few bucks

Has anyone seen the list of books we need?

I was just wondering what laptops people have. I bought a Dell over thanksgiving break, but it's backordered and I don't want to take any chances. I want the bare min. for the specs/price, b/c I already have a Mac w/ MS Office that I can use at home. Any suggestions? I'm going to cancel my order for the Dell b/c there's no telling when it will be ready. I'm just bummed b/c it was a good deal and I know I'm not going to find something that good for the same price.

Thanks!!

On a side note - what were they thinking w/ the Med/Surg text, holy crap!

I have a MSI A6200. I've had it for about a year and I like it.

Does anyone know what items are included with the Nursing "custom package" that we need to buy?

I have a few calls to make to Res on Tues and I was going to call the clinical coordinator and see if she knew what the kit has. I already have one from previous nursing classes and don't want to buy a whole new set. As soon as I find out, I'll let you guys know.

I already have a Mac and am wondering if it would be ok if I just have windows installed. I bought an HP just incase, but I don't want two computers if I don't need it. I love my mac and don't want to get rid of it, plus it has all my previous nursing work on it.

See you guys on Friday!!

Hi everyone.

I was wondering does anyone know where the ResU"s new location will be located? I am interested in applying to this school but my commute to Oak Park will be a long one, about 25 miles so I was interested to know where the new location is going to be. I like the fact that this program is only 16 months after all prereqs are complete. There arent any schools like that around my neighborhood and I am willing to travel but I would like to know where I would be traveling to :). Thanks

yup yup, it's moving to Wicker Park (St. Elizabeth's& Mary Hospital), it's very easy to access via blue line (near North Ave/Damen stop). Where do you live? If you live in Wicker Park/ Ukrainian Village that would be a perfect location. Hope that helps.

I live in the south suburb of Hazel Crest. That is going to be a long commute if I decide to attend. Do you guys think it will be worth it to travel that far just to finish sooner? Right now I attend Chicago State University and Im just doing prereqs but its going to take two more years before I can apply to their program and it will take two and a half years to finish that once I start. While on the other hand, I can apply to ResU's program Spring 2012 and finish in 16 months. The only reason I want to finish sooner than later is because I have a 4 year old daughter and Im still living at home with mom :( its time for me to get moving so I can really provide for her. So with all that said, do you guys think its worth the travel?

I would say- yes. I know a girl who commutes from Lisle, and one of the professors lives near IL/IN border. It's still gonna take you take you about an hour to get to school, but as I said I think it's worth it. It's 16 months vs 24 or 27. You graduate- you're done. I think it's wonderful that you want to better yourself academically for your daughter. Have you thought about their Evening/ Weekend Program? Many girls who are parents are going with this one, it's one semester longer, but it's not as hectic. Good-luck!
