Resurrection University (West Suburban College of Nursing) Spring 2011 applicants

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi all!

I'm in a process of applying to the Resurrection University (formerly West Suburban College of Nursing) for BSN Spring 2011 program (generic 16 months option). I started this thread to get and give some support along the process. Let's help each other out and maybe get know better before the semester starts! I'm about to start my final (fall) semester at Wilbur Wright College, I already took the TEAS exam, submitted my online application, letters of recommendation and essay. I'm just waiting for my official transcript with summer school grades. I'll be going for the guaranteed admission program. If anyone has questions or just want to share his/hers experiences- please post your comments! GOOD LUCK Y'ALL !! :)

I took the Info Systems & Computer Applications test this week and it was more difficult than I originally thought... I have both REA books for computer and human growth and development if anyone still needs to study.

I'm at orientation on the 16th.

summr,

What topics were on the exam? Was it basic stuff like what is CMOS etc? I have a degree in comp sci and my admissions counselor said i might have to take the clep. :-{

Sorry for the delayed reply mono2010--

Here is the link for the actual exam so you can see what topics are on the test.

CLEP: Information Systems and Computer Applications

I'd be surprised if you didn't cover everything while earning your degree.

hey guys,

Has anyone taken either the college math or college algebra CLEP?

Also, for those of you who have taken the computer clep: How much computer background do you have, what kind of study schedule did you set for yourself and how much in advance did you begin to study?

Im stressing because i have 3 clep exams and a 8 wk stats course to complete before january! :/

Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry for delayed response - definitely check out my post on the previous page regarding my experience taking the info systems CLEP last week. My computer background is that I'm quite computer literate in the typical sense - all windows and office applications and I also have medical and membership database management experience. However, I have never taken any college-level computer course. I studied for about 4 weeks for about 4 hours day, 6 days a week with the most recent R. E. A. CLEP book. I took one practice exam during that time but I highly recommend taking one at the beginning of your studying so you know how much you will need to improve to pass (with a score of 50). I got a score of 61 after the four weeks of studying.

As you have other other exams and studying to do, I recommend taking practice exams for each of the subjects and allocating your study time appropriately. Check out my other post and let me know if you have any other questions re the info systems exam.

Good luck!

Hey everybody, I was just wondering if any of you know what the laptop specs are. I saw the page a while ago and now I can't find one that works.

thanks and have a good weekend!

also, has anyone started the health stream stuff?

Hello,

I got the laptop specs emailed to me from the IT department as the link wasn't working. I unfortunately had to buy a new laptop as my macbook pro won't work given the requirements. Just a bit frustrating to say the least! I went with a Toshiba L630 with an added 12 cell battery. Definitely don't neglect the battery requirement as they do not have available outlets in the classrooms.

I started the Healthstream learning yesterday and it definitely is longer than I expected. Pretty straight forward and important pre-nursing stuff but I recommend starting sooner rather than later. One could probably do it in one long day or most of a weekend. I'm going with the 5 a day route (there are 25 modules total, most with a quiz).

Happy Holidays!

Has anyone seen the list of books we need?

Yes, you can find it by going to the RESU website and enter the current students link. Then click on the virtual bookstore link. Then go to undergraduate, and pick all of the course numbers for the courses. The online bookstore will then compile the list for you. There are a lot, thirteen I believe (including the nurses tool kit). I was going to use financial aid to purchase my books but they are ridiculously overpriced through MBS. Therefore, I bought everything (with the exception of the tool kit) through amazon and amazon marketplace and saved at least 40% overall. I was interested in trying to see if I could get a better deal on the too kit also, however, the kit contains 17 very specific medical equipment. It would be easy to order to wrong item and more expensive to ship separately so I believe the tool kit is an okay value. Happy Book Hunting!

Hi, I guess you could call this a hijack. I am selling books from the 1st semester from Fall 2010 for Resurrection University. anyone interested let me know.

ohh fantastic, has anyone taken it yet or knows someone who has taken the new info systems and computer applications exam? (I believe this past year the focus of the material was changed slightly)

The class my daughter took at Waubonsee that satisfied the requirement was basically a Microsoft Office class. pretty simple. took it online

Do you guys know when we find out about our clinical schedules? I emailed the clinical coordinator and called, but never got an answer. I need to know so I can schedule daycare.

Thanks and happy holidays to everyone!
