Need license renewal help

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I have a current Illinois active RN license. It runs out in May of this year. I have not worked in 9 years but have kept my license active. What do I need to do. I now see there are CEd's required. I feel overwhelmed and not sure where to start? I want to keep my license active in case I ever need to return to work. I am a SAH mom right now. Please help,

Thanks,

Stacey

medscape.com has a ton of them for free. I do them for the hospital where I was required to have so many per year and have done 10 a night, so it IS doable by the end of May.

OP: this is doable and at little to no cost. Go to NursingCenter and Nurse.com to find lots of free CEUs. Or spring for one of the unlimited CEU accounts where you pay about $40 and can take as many CEUs as you like from their special collection.

I managed about 30 CEUs in two months.

Myfreece.com$30 per year for unlimited contact hours.

I didn't know about the cec's and now I know I won't be able to have the 20 hours required by license renewal which is in two months.

Why not? Getting 20 CEUs is very easy to do online.

Wow, being out of the loop for years can really cause confusion! I was thinking that the CE's were a class I would have to take. I checked out nurse.com, what happens after I take the CE and how do I know which one my state accepts and who do I let know that I have done it?

I wouldn't recommend this approach, but I'm a total procrastinator and did my last 10 CEUs in 2 days last time I needed to renew my license. So 20 in 2 months should be doable.

What happens if you don't get them all done in time for renewal?

Then you can't renew your license.

After you take them you print the certificate that says you have done it. I don't know about the rules in IL, but in MA you don't let anyone know you have done it. If you renew your license and you get audited, you have to provide proof that you have completed your CEUs (by providing the board with the certificates you received at the end). If you don't complete your CEUs by license renewal time, you cannot renew your license. You have to sign something acknowledging that you have completed the required CEUs when you renew your license.

The state of Illinios is just now requiring CEU's ?? Hard to believe. I have had to have CEU's for over 10 years to renew and have to renew every 2 years. I have never had to submit CEU's that is only if your board audits you. CEU's would be a good way for you to stay current in the profession since you haven't been working. Good Luck

yep, I looked it up online... several states require this and I think it is a good idea. My state doesn't, but I generally work on some all year just for my info and education.
