JJC 2013 Spring Nursing Applicants ?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello - this is my very first time posting a new topic, hopefully I'm doing this correctly.

Just wanted to see if there are any ladies/gentlemen out there applying into the nursing program for the Spring 2013 semester. We apply the first two weeks of August - and then does anyone know how long until we take the TEAS test? I keep getting told different things, it's confusing.

Speaking of.....Hopefully I'm accepted and can then maybe make some friends. I'm so sick and tired of the people who tell you one thing that's untrue, all to mess with your head and make you second guess anything you've ever known about this nursing program. I know this is a competitive field and all, but sheesh already, the lies and manipulation have been unreal!

Also, I have to say, I admire anyone who has (especially while working FT w/a family) gone to school to take these pre-reqs while not even knowing if you will get in. The stress I have experienced, the stress and torture I have put my family through while leaving 3-4 nights a week after work, to go to school, while not even knowing if I'll be accepted, has been beyond brutal. I wish we could write an essay on all that we've sacrificed in hopes that would make some of the admissions counselors feel guilty enough to just put an approved stamp on our applications :)

Good luck to you all!

Does anyone happen to know what timeframe is for days and what timeframe for nights? or does it vary? thanks! I am surprised there is not any information on this on the jjc website.

No, I haven't heard from JJC directly but I did see someone post what their schedule was like at JJC. It is a lottery though so the times vary based on the day/evening. I believe we will be in school 3-4 days a week the first semester and it depends if you are a CNA or not (take NURS 140 or not).

I just saw my TEAS scores posted in our Test Summary section....I wonder where they are in the deciding process

Thank you for that information. It is so nice discussing this with other students in the same boat as I am!!! I was thinking the same thing when I registered the application, I clicked "either" as well. I decided I will make it work. I too am a single mother, PurplePRN... god bless you for pushing through, I know it is difficult!!! For that matter God bless everyone going through this turmoil. It is so challenging pushing for & dedicating your time and life for something you may not get accepted into. However, I believe whether you think you will or think you wont, it will happen. So with that said, has anyone gotten any idea when we will hear the official word? I understood three weeks give or take. I don't know what the heck to do with my nervous energy LOL....

You are so right - that is one of the other reasons I made this post, aside from being a nervous wreck about the TEAS. So many of us are going through this together, I truly hope we get it, all of us! I'm REALLY hoping that since the new building is supposed to be opening up Spring 2013, maybe they will take more applicants? Has anyone heard anything about this being a possibility? I was at school last night and read the paper which stated the nursing area is state of the art w/mannequins that actually cry, sweat, and bleed - how cool is this!! I sooooo want to be apart of this, I want it so bad I can taste it!

Agree 100%!!!!!!

I picked nights but also picked either and I figured if its days I will round up a sitter before and after class. Most people said the science was the worst. I check my emails everyday, hoping its really early and they know lol

I too hope we all get in . This seems like a great group, reading through the posts :)

That is so interesting, models that bleed & sweat... WOW!!!

yes, on test summary I did notice as well grades were "accepted"

we are getting there....it's 10-4....so I am thinking at the most: 2 more weeks. :wideyed:

My scores have been loaded as well. Also hoping we all get in! I'm so ready for this.

So another step completed...grades are uploaded!! I have to be honest, since I noticed my scores were uploaded I have been stalking my email....I really want that accepted email.....and SOON!!!!! I am thinking 2 more weeks too but the sooner the better so I can breathe again!!

I hope we all get in as well...we all have the same drive and determination!! Fingers crossed for everyone!

I gave my Teas on September 26, 2012 -- I believe that was the last day to take TEAS. I got a 74.7 composite score and 78 on my reading. I completed all my pre-requisites and have a 3.6 GPA. I am not sure how the odds are given the less amount of applicants and my average scores. I pray I make it.

I just want to add with last semesters "lowest acceptance score", there were a lot of applicants who declined their spot into the JJC program (due to acceptance into another Nursing Program, or other life events) so what the department did was go down the list and start calling people (in order of their "rank") until all spots were filled up. So those scores aren't much of a refection of how well the last class did.... Just wanted to let you guys know. Those who had a lower score and got an "acceptance call" were the lucky ones and their acceptance wasn't really based on their score but of open seats in the program - and from what I heard it was a rare occurance.

Good Luck to you all!

ALSO!!

Along with the whole getting away from the "drama", if you are fortunate you will find life long friends within your groups - but there are always going to be people like that everywhere.

I was fortunate enough to be paired up with the most awesome clinical group! We are organized, friendly, helpful, and drama-free. I can't say the same for all the groups though. We even formed a study group, and we collaborate AMAZINGLY!! :D

raqi89 ~ Thank you for the input! I hope to find a group as positive as yours!

Does anyone know if they send rejection emails as well as acceptance ones? That would stink to see people getting accepted and have an empty mailbox.

Thanks for the info Raqui! I agree that study groups are awesome and you gain friendships from them as well.

PurplePRN-- my email said we would receive an email stating we were either accepted or rejected. Trying to stay patient!
