Help with NMH!

U.S.A. Illinois

I am a former employee of Northwestern, but moved out of state after one year. It is now 3 years later, and I have moved back to the Chicago area. I took a job at another Chicago hospital, but I am really unhappy there. I didn't apply to NMH at first when I moved back because of commuting issues. I am now desperate, and they have a job opening in the area I would love to work in. I sent in my resume but no cover letter. I got the stock email about them calling me if I matched any open positions. I haven't heard a word from them, and it has been over a month. The job opening is still posted online, so I am very confused.

As a former employee, I know that they like to hire back people that used to work there. Do you think that not sending in a cover letter with my resume online was a problem?? What can I do now? Should I call HR? My good friend also works in the unit at NMH, and she has passed my name on to the night manager who said he would pass it on to the manager of the whole unit. Should I resubmit my resume with a cover letter for the same position?? Help...I am clueless.

Are you applying for the same unit you used to work on? I'd just call the nurse manager yourself during the daytime and speak with him or her. Explain that you used to work there, had to move, and now are back in the Chicago area and are interested in coming back if they have any positions available. Good luck!

Unfotunately, the position that I am applying for is in a different unit than I previously worked in. I wish it were that easy! I am really at a loss...

Hello,

I am not sure how the HR was when you were there before but believe you would have 100% much better luck by approaching the manager on the unit you hope to work first rather than HR. I am a former employee, (I was there briefly but due to full time student status and a mis-communcation between my boss and me about required hours I resigned, regrettably but, on good terms). She was about the 3rd or 4th NMH employee who told me that the HR is notorious.

Why not send the same exact letter and resume to both the HR and to the manager on the department you hope to get. Well, maybe a different letter, let the manager know that the HR should also have received your resume too.

Go for it, call up NMH and ask for the department and request the manager.

Good luck!!

edited to say: the HR had my resume for a good loong while, I had applied online in February or so and updated it the next January yet it wasn't until April when I asked the manager of the department directly that I got the call from HR, within a day!!
