Any Prairie State college hopefuls for fall 2012

I was just wondering are there any prairie state hopefuls for 2012 out there?

Good advice and food for thought. It's good to hear from a student in the program. I heard about racism and it's pathetic that some people still have that kind of mindset. Good to know thats no longer an issue at prairie state. I'm looking forward to this new journey. Just wondering do you work? If so full or part time? How do you manage to balance work and school? Any advice?

I don't work myself. I'm pretty fortunate. I stay at my parents. No kids or job so outside of school I don't really have anything on my plate. I was working for the first couple of months 1st semester but I quit to focus on school. But you'll run into former prairie state nursing students all over the place, in clinicals, during your observations, etc. I spoke to one woman who worked in the OR at St. James who had 4 kids and worked (not sure if she was single or not) and made it through. I also met a woman up in Endoscopy who graduated from the Prairie State Nursing program 41 years ago! Her niece just finished the program I think this year.

The only advice I can give is manage your time wisely so as to avoid as much stress as possible. In order to save time when you go through the readings, highlight what you're not familiar with or what you feel you need to know. So when the quiz, midterms, and finals come around instead of having to re-read through everything (and you can't realistically study everything for those anyway) you'll be able to brush up on what you feel you need to know relatively easily by going over the highlighted portions in your book. And try to get into a routine that works for you so when life throws things at you that aren't expected (sick kids, family emergency, annoying spouse, illness, etc) it won't be too hard for you to get back on track.

Good morning Jasel!!! I am also a pre-nursing student seeking acceptance into the ADN program at Prairie State College for the FALL 2012!!! As of now I am waiting on my letter of acceptance from Prairie State College!!!

HONESTLY, these few past weeks has been a nervous wreck for me!!! I might not have all of 100 points as of now, but I do have all my sciences completed with "A's & B's"!!!!

So my question to you JASEL, is how much of an effect does the point system have on your admittance in the ADN program???

I've heard it really depends on the current crop of people trying to get into the program which is how they base their points. The number of points required for a certain incoming class one year might be completely different than the ones required for previous or future classes. So I really wouldn't judge your chances on getting in based on what someone else said they had when they got in.

Just worry about the requirements. If you have okay grades, have all the required classes done, live in district, and do well enough on the HESI, chances are you're going to get in. Keep in mind this program accepts WAAAAYYY more students then they know are going to complete the program. Because they know the vast majority are not going to make it to the end, or will drop/fail and come back later to try again.

Believe me, I remember trying to get into nursing programs. I know that seems like the hardest part, but if you have all the general requirements chances are you'll be accepted. And if you're NOT accepted, chances are you'll be able to get in at a later time, or even another program.

It has everything to do with hour acceptance! They ONLY admit people to the program based on points. If your points not high enough then you may want to complete all your classes before applying! That happened to me last year I didn't have classes completed which made my points low and I didn't get in!

"Your" not "hour" sorry!! Lll

Thanks Jasel for the advice!!! As of right now my mind is all ready made up that if Prairie State College doesn't accept me, I plan to attend another University right away!!! I do live in the district, I done well on the heisa also!!! As of right now, I am sitting by the window looking out for the mail man before I go to class!!! lol TALKING ABOUT A NERVOUS WRECK!!!

I know that I have to try not and worry to much about getting accepted into the program, but also I have to worry about completing the program!!!
