What is your hospital having you do? The hospital I work for is having us sign up all patients for the Illinois Tobacco Quit line but I don't think that's what the new law requires.
I work registry at another hospital and we don't do that.
Can anyone point me to what the actual new law says hospitals are required to do.
Thanks in advance.

I would say "to stay out of employees personal lives...." but I am not sure that this is a "thing". Now we all have to bring big brother home. Awesome.

I'm trying to find a way to look at this and see a positive outcome but, I'll be honest, I'm struggling. I don't think anyone, in this day and age, would argue the risks and dangers associated with using tobacco products but, at the end of the day, it is a person's choice. To aggressively enforce cessation strategy on all patients (against their will? Are they even asked?) seems inappropriate (and I'm putting this mildly).
Whatever happened to the old "Have you considered quitting smoking?" during the history taking or the health promotion bit?
