About the rolling backpacks...everyone uses them so everyone who is wondering or hesitant about how they look - don't worry. Besides, the average age of the CLC Nursing Student is 40 (right from the director's mouth). Once you see (and carry) the books around you'll look back and wonder why you even thought twice about getting one. Also, there are bigger things to worry about in the program - all the extra practice time you'll need in the lab, the PE at the end of the semester, the not your typical 90%=A 80%=B grading scale, the gigantic reading assignments, the self-study curriculum, the new instructors that aren't exactly familiar with CLC "isms", working if you have to (only 1 person out of 10 in my section works and the rest of us are glad we don't!), knowing 100's of meds, knowing 100's of abbreviations and so on............................

I did get my rolling backpack...although there are no straps for the back...I guess it's just a rolling bag.

Anyway...here is the one I got.
eBags Perspective Mobile Laptop Office-Vertical

CT21-88844
from www.ebags.com

I loaded it up with a bunch of books so I could see how much it held. The main compartment held about 4 1/2 inches of books. The 2nd compartment held about 2 inches plus three 1-subject spiral notebooks. Another compartment has lots of places to put pens, voice recorders, Advil, etc. There is also another pocket that zips up/down, so I'm not sure what I'd put in there. There are also lots of zippered/elastic pouches to put other items. It comes with a laptop sleeve that goes in the 2nd compartment, but I took that out, I don't think I'll bring my laptop to class.

I rolled it around the house a bit while it was full. It rides nice, although I haven't taken it off-roading yet! My son was rolling his eyes laughing at me. He said I am lucky his sister wasn't here or she'd NEVER let me live this down. Umm...he also said a was a dork, but we'll forget about that one!

The only thing it doesn't have is a place for a water bottle, but who needs water? For me it's coffee, more coffee and did I mention coffee!!

I heard some bring a lunch sack anyway. Anyway, I think it is big enough, as I plan on debinding my books AND I have a Palm that I plan on loading sortware needed.

If you order, do a search for ebags coupon codes. I found one online and saved some money, plus it was on sale when I bought it.

I searched around quite a bit. I thought about going with a small carry-on bag (like a small suitcase) but I didn't like that it upzipped on 3 sides. I thought that might be harder to get things in and out. I didn't find any rolling backpacks that looked like they would hold bunches, except for the ones that were $300! I am hoping this works. It looks to be made nicelytoo.

Thanks for the info on the backpack...I'm going to keep my eye out for one as well...I'll take a peek at the link too.

Also, where are you getting your software from for your palm? Can you send me a link? Is it expensive??? And what KIND of software are you using and what are the benefits of it. Thanks!!!!

I am getting the software from www.skyscape.com - I don't think prices are too bad. You order online and can download it onto the Palm. Or you can have whatever you want to purchase loasded on a disk (the size that fits Palms) and they charge you an additional $25.00 for that. I figure that way, if something happens to break on the Palm I wont lose my software. There may be another place to get it, but from what I hear, most do thru skyscape.

I am gonna wait until I get the list of books we need, or I want and then go from there.

I use my Palm now for keeping track of my A&P grades, volunteering schedule, etc. I also have a few games, for those moments when I am brain dead and need something else do to.

Has anyone decided which Section (days) they are going for? I'd like to go for the same one that I "know" some people.

I've actually been contemplating getting one of the Palm Smartphones anyhow. The more I read about the need for reference books in the program, the more it seems to make sense to get one. (Our wireless contract is up, and we can get discounted phones for signing a new contract, so it kind of makes sense - at least that's what I'm trying to tell my hubby!).

I can really make any of the 4 daytime schedules work. My first preference is section 1, but I'll take what I can get.

Does anyone know if there is any special registration number or something that we need in order to register for these classes? I'm wondering how they make sure only those accepted to the program can register for these. There must be some kind of database set up with our id #'s. That's the only thing I can think of...

If anyone else has a rolling bag, please comment on what you have and whether you like it!

I went with the Palm T/X for a few reasons. First, I am with US Cellular and they are know for great rates, but last years phones. At the time all they had was Blackberry. I heard that once you load what you need for nursing school on a Blackberry, they run really slow.

I thought about switching cell phone companies and getting a Smartphone, but heard that in some hospitals they may not allow you to use them unless you can shut down the phone part. I guess not all of them allow you to do that.

At any rate, I did tons of research and ended up getting the T/X. I like the fact that the memory is expandable with the use of cards.

Do a search on here for Palm and you'll get tons of info!

I prefer Section 1 or 2. I'm torn - the only difference is lab times. Part of me, says it would be nice to get it over and part of me says it would be nice if I have a late night studying. For me it's 50/50, so I can go for Section 1.

I think the system is set up so that it knows we are allowed to register for that class. Kinda like how it knows when you accidentally sign up for 2 classes at the same time! I only did that once - just don't tell!

Now, here is my question. I have a palm, but I do not have internet access with it...do I need that? I can load the software through my computer, but not directly from the palm. Is that going to work for me?

As far as signing up, I believe they put our Student ID's into the database so it recognizes us when we are logged in. That would be my guess!

Hi all. I don't have a palm-I am still on the line. I am thinking I would be smart to get one-I dont know.

I am trying for section 1 or 2. I am hoping I get in. It just works best for my mom who will be watching my kids and I will still be home for dinner and homework, for the kids. I just worry that I won't get in for those two sections- I have heard alot of people saying they want those classes too. I just have to keep my fingers crossed. It would be very hard if I had later classes.

I looked at the link for Diedra's bag. It looks nice I might go with that one also. What color did you get? I don't want to get the same color in case we are in the same class, wouldn't want to get them confused.

I'm going for section 004...any other takers? I kind of like the T-W-Th classes in the middle of the week. Never liked Mondays and it looks like I can skirt around Monday for now.

Everyone geared up for signing up online 8:00am Monday for priority registration? Ready...set...go!
