Diedra, I passed the health office today, I will be back in Monday at 9:15 to get more. I have a friend who called around yesterday about cpr classes and they are either full or not offering, or just offering if you are a current empolyee and need to recertify. We are going to really have to search to find a cpr course. Makes me worried, but I am sure it will work out.

I really liked your answer, Lori, about the 3 credits/hold. That makes sense. I went to the Admin/Regist office yesterday and they reassured me that I'd have no problems registering for a class. I asked if they could remove the notification on my account, and they said it couldn't be done. Sure hope this doesn't indicate any more hoops that we gotta jump through.

Thanks, too, Diedra, for the idea of debinding books. I had never heard of that before! I'd love to give it a try. I think I'm gonna venture over to Big Lots in Kenosha soon and see what I can find for a durable rolling backpack. I'll keep you guys posted with what I found and prices.

As for clinical sites, does anyone know where Whitehall North or Westmoreland are located?
Oh, you are very welcome!!! I will probably call them too and ask them to remove it from mine just to be sure there are no issues! This isn't anything to mess around with!!!

Let me know for sure about the rolling backpack!!! I so need one and I live right by the big lots in Round Lake...well, not right by it, but I can be in the area to swing by there!

Westmoreland, I believe, is by Lake Forest Hospital and Whitehall North is in Deerfield it looks like. I just did a quick google search for Nursing Homes with those names and that is what came up.

Thanks, Lori...
Anyway, I just pulled up the list of the required texts for the Program (Fall listing, of course as its too early to post the Spring). I'm thinking of posting a question about what editions could we use. I mean, afterall, if you are buying ALL your books when you first start, then, chances are you don't need to use textbook A or B until the 2nd or 3rd semester...so earlier editions would be okay? Hmmm...

Heather:

I was in the Health Center today around 9am to get my TB shot checked. Another lady was just leaving. Once I got back to the nurse, she said she had recently seen someone who wants to meet me. She asked if I was posting on "some internet site". I laughed and said "was it Heather or Lori". She said she couldn't tell me, but the first name would work. She then told me that the lady who just left was starting with us. That's why I was wondering if it was you.

I hope you guys find someplace to do the CPR. One would think that CLC would add some more for the people who were waiting to get into the program before taking it. I took it in the beginning of October - I hate to wait for the last minute on stuff!

UPS says my rolling backpack will be here today!!! I can't wait!

I suggest not buying any books until orientation. They tell you which ones on the list to buy by when. Many people bought all sorts of books before hand and had to return them (if they even could). It was a big mess. Also, whichever edition you start with first semester is what you'll use throughout the program (except the drug book which is really cheap anyway). The store doesn't carry many used nursing books because editions are changing often and people don't return them because they use them throughout the program. Plus the list is deceiving...some you don't need until 2nd semester. I just suggest waiting until orientation. Many of your questions will be answered there.
Just a thought.

That is funny!!! It wasn't me...I'm sure the Nurse hates me by now because I keep calling with questions and changing my appointment...LOL Just kidding. I'll be there on December 6!!!!

clcstudent, I am going to take your advice and wait until then and see what they suggest getting and when...it'll be easier for me to break it up a little!!! Thanks for the advice!

Guess what I just found??? New CPR classes at CLC that we will be able to take BEFORE we start Spring semester classes!!! Of course we can't register for them 'til Nov. 19th, but they are on Friday 1/11 from 5-10pm and Saturday 1/12 from 8am-1pm.

Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel SO relieved!

So glad you found some CPR classes through CLC. What a pain to have to look elsewhere!!! At least this way you know you got the right one!!!

Just got a return call from my local fire department (Winthrop Harbor). They offer CPR Basic for Healthcare Providers via the American Heart Association. The class will be about 6 hrs long and take place on the weekend. Cost is $40. Once the December schedule comes out, they will call me back with a date and time. Anyone else interested? I'll keep you posted...

I think that is cheaper than CLC!!!

I think I stuck with CLC only to make sure I took the right class...I always freak myself out that I'm doing something incorrectly. But, if it's for Healthcare professionals, I would imagine it's the correct one!!!
