New Nurse Grad Wanting to work in Chicago

Hello. I graduate in December of this year and am considering relocating to Chicago. Has anyone got into the new grad program at Children's? How competitive? I am not exactly interested in pure peds but I am looking for a great program for new hires. I would love to live in Chicago! Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Research it thoroughly, as most Chicago Hospitals have hiring freezes for new grads. I work at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and was told by an HR person that they expect more positions may open up after September(end of this fiscal year) Even the experienced nurses are having a hard time finding positions.
Chicago is an awesome place to live, but is VERY expensive to live on a new grads salary, so be sure to look for roommates to share the rent.
Best of luck!

?!????

I don't know where you're living in Chicago, but I've lived on my own (in 1BRs) on way less than $25 an hour in Chicago. You'll be fine if you can get hired. . .you may not be able to live in the trendiest neighborhood in a loft, but you'll be fine.

Lived within walking distance of Northwestern Memorial, and then Advocate Masonic Hospitals. Gold Coast is expensive....luckily I was a travel RN and had my rent paid for (it was $1100-1500 for a one bedroom apartment).
Where do you live that $25/hour is sufficient to pay rent, car insurance, student loans, groceries and have a savings?!?!?!? And the sales tax down here!

I now live happily in a southwest suburb and can drive or take the metra for 3 shifts a week! yipppeee!

I graduated this May with my BSN and live in Chicago. Sure places are hiring, only if you have clinical RN experience. Children's is not doing the nurse residency program this year. I just looked into Northwestern, "Will NOT accept Graduate RN"- actual post from them... like many other hospitals.

Most places are not hiring new graduates right now. I have been applying since May and haven't found anything. Hopefully things will get better soon!
