Chamberlain College of Nursing

I was wondering if anyone has information about this school? I spoke with admissions and they do not have a waiting list so all I would have to do is pass an exam and I can start in July. The school is in Addison which would be perfect for me :D However, I know it is a new campus so I am a little speculative about how easy it is to get in. There are no pre-reqs except you have to have held a GPA of at least 2.75 or higher in all previous college. Does anyone have any advice or info about his school? Any personal experiences? Thank you! :heartbeat

Hello,

I am actually in their program right now. I know exactly how you feel. I was a little speculative too, but the program is GREAT! They are fully accredited and they will make you work. My older sister is finishing her BSN right now, and I had her look at it, and she gave her approval. They offer all the gen eds through the school because it is an accelerated 3 year BSN program if you come in with nothing done. That's why you don't have to have any pre-reqs done. They do expect you to have done well prior to entering there though. It's definitely not like an "oh you failed this class, but we are going to let you in anyway" kind of program. They want quality. The St. Louis campus is very well known around that area, and this program is hoping for the same thing. Their goal is to have an NCLEX pass rate above 90% on the first time around (I think that's what it is for the St. Louis campus.) They are definitely fans of NCLEX style questions on their tests. Our second exam in Health and Wellness was definitely the types of questions you will see on the boards. We also have an NCLEX style when it comes to taking the test as in everything in front of the room, cell phone in front of you and off, and pretty much nothing but your pencils in front of you. The girls are all wonderful too as well as the teachers. The nurses and instructors want you to succeed. It's definitely not an easy program and not everyone is getting A's in their classes, but everyone works very hard to get good grades so it gets intimidating. I definitely would say come check it out and see for yourself. I recommend it and definitely think it's worth applying. Hope this helps!

I just got accepted in the nursing program in Addison and i start in march. I think the program is very conveint because there are no waiting lists and no prereqs. So far my experience with admissions has been great. I got accepted with a 2.8 gpa and 82% on their entrance exam. The staff is really helpful with answering any questions you have. The only thing im puzzled about is in the fact that they have Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry and Biology in their cirriuculum but you are tested upon those subjects on their entrance exam. Lucky for me I already took all those classes, so i was pretty familiar with the material, although i could of scored higher but i was rushing through the test. It takes about 2 hours to finish depending on your knowledge. Today i went there to sign up for my classes and it was a pretty easy process, i just dont understand why the students cant register themselves, you have to make an appt with your student advisor just to sign up for your classes every semester. And you have to take all of your pre nursing classes through devry university. The school itself is devry, one part of the school says devry and the back part of it says chamberlain. The tuition is pretty pricey, my cost added up to 7652 per semester , and there are 3 semesters in a year, so altogether your looking at $22,000 or so. Sallie mae will be my best friend for a long time!!!! But after you get accepted you have to pay for a background check and drug screening adding up to $203. So start saving up. I mean yea, they are a new school and building a Reputation, but i would definitely give it a try, how many nursing schools you know that dont have a waiting list or pre reqs? They are fully accredited i saw their certificates in the student service office so there are very legit. Let me know if you decide on going.....

Wow thank you. I am in the same boat when it comes to gpa. I was actually was considering taking my pre-reqs at ECC just to save some money and improve my overall GPA!! I also bombed my high school ACTS from 10 years ago :banghead:. My appointment is Thursday at 11:30 am with Josh in admissions. I'll keep you posted on if I get accepted! Please let me know how you like school when you start. Thanks again and best wishes :heartbeat

Hi I just wanted to ask you if you took all the pre-req courses before you began the BSn or if you did it with the nursing classes. I ask because I am undecided if I should stay at a community college and finish as many as possible (it'll take me forever) or if I should just go for it and start at Chamberlain with only some pre-reqs done. What was the path you took and how is it working for you?

Thank you very much :redbeathe

 I had never heard of Chamberlain Nursing School. I live in Elgin, IL and Addison is about 30 minutes away from me. I had enrolled in Kennedy King College in Chicago, IL to start their nursing program. I was able to call the school and find out about their NO pre-reqs and what information I needed to start. I had a G.P.A. of 2.8 in High Scool and I have never attend a college. I do have a questiom if anyone attend /will be attend knows: The Nursing Program a LPN or RN? Would you recieve one before the other? Good Luck to all attending and those who have complete their dream of becoming a Nurse. I work like to start in July Course myself, however I want to take a few college class and few pre-reqs just for my own knowledge.

Hi I am in the enrollment process at Chamberlain for the July start. I do have some of the pre-reqs already done from my associates degree (not the sciences). They have ASN, BSN, and RN to BSN bridge programs. I also live out your way and Addison really is not that bad of a drive. I have chosen the 3 year BSN program. If you have no pre-reqs I would reccommend taking some (psyc, sociology, speech, english) before hand. For example, at ECC, since you are in district, it will cost you $91 per credit hour. At Chamberlain it will cost you $546 per credit hour!! Even though it'll take a little longer, in the long run you'll save thousands and probably be a little better prepared since you have not attended college. The deadline for July is March 15th. The also have an October start. Let me know if you have anymore questions :nuke:

Thanks that a great idea to take those course at E.C.C. I was told about the Oct start date if I can start then I will start in Oct. If not I'm sure in Jan 2010. So is the Chamberlain Program a L.P.N. or R.N. or both. I wanted to get my L.P.N. ddone first then go into a LPN/Bridge Program. If I take the course(psyc, sociology, speech english) Will I have other pre-reqs to take at Chamberlian? How long do you think it would take me to finish those 4 pre-reqs? I also want to take a Math and maybe a Medical Voc. class? How long would the pre-reqs take with those classes

No problem. For starters I would contact admissions to see what classes you could take ahead of time. Check out www.Chamberlain.edu The one thing I could see being a problem is getting all of those pre-reqs in before the start date. Also, the spring session at ECC already started so you would have to wait until the summer and fall sessions. I checked the website and it doesn't look like they have an LPN program :o Depending how many classes you take each semester will determine how long it takes you to finish you pre-reqs. For some people it takes two or three years especially if they have other obligations like work or families or both! How did you do in high school? Did you take you ACTs? It's took me a while to get classes out of the way as I work full-time and have a child :heartbeat. There is an entrance exam you have to pass before being accepted to Chamberlain. Email me your email address and I will forward you a really helpful study guide :typing. [email protected]

Hi Roxy0628,

I like to enroll in the october start. Are you in the program now? Do you know what the acceptable score is for the entrance exam? What study guide should I study from to prepare? I have all the pre-reqs except micro, though the sciences are 6yrs old. Please email me the study guide info to [email protected]

Thanks Roxy0628.
