Lewis-Clark College

U.S.A. Idaho

Is anyone going to Lewis-Clark College now? I am from Washington state but found out it is too hard to get into nursing program in Washington. Does anybody have comments or suggestions about that school?

Do you know if the license is transferable from Idaho to WA?

Hello there.. I don't go to school at LCSC but my mom went there and graduated in 99. The school is good i do believe... i know that there are alot of people that don't pass the NCLEX the first time from there but there are also alot of people that do. I do know it is pretty hard to get into their program. After you pass the NCLEX you take the test in which ever state you want to be certified in. Once you have taken the test you have to apply for your washington license. You don't have to take another test you just have to pay money.

I go to school at NIC in Coeurdalene and Its really hard to get in up here as well. Our program is fairly hard and they have had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX the last 3 years. The program up here you learn alot but you have to be very flexible because they change your schedule alot through out the two years. It is only a associate degree as well. You can continue to get your BSN through a outreach program affiliated with LCSC up here in Coeurdalene. Its just another option.

I'm in Coeur d'Alene and I'm taking BSN classes through them. Some of the instructors are great, but some of them are complete trash! The two genetics instructors in Lewiston are horrible. The only good instructors I've run across are actually up here, so who knows...

And getting financial aid from them is like pulling teeth! Mine is always a month late and they charge you late fees if you haven't paid your tuition by the second day of class, regardless of whether or not you have an award letter.

If I could switch, I'd be going somewhere else in a heartbeat. Consider a move to CDA and try to get into NIC's program? They've got almost a 100% pass rate, which I hope to be joining come this spring... hehe.

Most of the grads I talked to said the NCLEX is easier than the tests they had in the program, and my friend didn't even pick up an NCLEX study book and he passed the first time.

Whatever you choose... make SURE you're getting what you pay for. I can't imagine graduating and then getting blind-sided by boards that I was nowhere near prepared for... then you've got to re-educate yourself all on your own.

PS: All of the Spokane schools suck too... I've heard about 5 horror stories about them and was actually on the floor when one of their students just about killed a pt doing a routine procedure..

I go to WWCC in Clarkston, across the river from Lewiston. I like WWCC as it is a 2 yr RN ADN program vs LCSC 4 yr program. I don't think it is a struggle to get into WWCC as long as you have your pre-reqs complete. One yr down and another yr to go for me! Good luck to you!

... that's an associates degree. LCSC is a BSN...

I just graduated from LCSC and their nursing program is fantastic. So far everyone in our class has program. They currently have a brand new nursing building with state of the art lab. They also started accepting nursing students into the program twice a year now, so you have more of a chance. I would not go to WWCC in Clarkston, Wa. I have seen some of the nurses and students, and frankly I am not impressed. Also you would go about the same amount of time as WWCC and get a bachelor's degree instead of an associates.

Yes it is harder to get into the LCSC program, but that is for good reason. If they did not set the bar higher, than anybody could get in. This means they could let anyone in and this could be harmful to future patients. Even though WWCC is an associates degree, most nurses that I have seen come out of there have taken over 3 years or more to finish. It took me 4 years to graduate LCSC.

I thought LCSC's genetics professors were great. I am sorry you feel like they are complete trash. Have you actually met them in person? Do you actually know them? I have spent time with all of them pretty much every day and none are remotely close to "trash". As for our pass rate for the NCLEX is 98%. As for the financial aid form, it's done online so I don't know what your problem would be there. I have never encountered a problem with fiancial aide form, award letters, loans, applications, etc. The only problem I have encountered is that they don't take VISA.

Have you researched Grays Harbor Community College near Aberdeen? There are a few WA state colleges that you may want to research. Idaho has some good colleges and Boise State is one of the easier ones with tution at an affordable rate. I would steer away from colleges that have a NCLEX pass rate less than 95 percent. You have worked so very hard for this moment why would you place your self in a position where you may fail and then have to take the test over again, just more things you will have to review and more time to forget.

Do what is best for you

Good Luck

LC had what was the best program in the Northwest. Their NCLEX pass rates have fallen below WWCC across the river. They shortened the program by a year and have not figured out how to fix it. They are still flying by the seat of their pants.

LCSC is even tougher to get into now. The college has beefed up the number of instructors for core classes so there are more students to apply each semester. The bonus is that they accept a new class each semester.

There is good and bad at LC Nursing. Some of the instructors are the finest you will ever find and a few others are less than one would hope. You will be surprised at the academic nepotism (some call it academic incest) as they prefer to hire their own graduates as instructors. This would be a huge academic no-no at every other college or university I have attended.

The newest instructors are required to work toward a masters degree to keep their teaching jobs. Sometimes your grades are a lower priority than theirs.

Another bad is that you are not allowed to have your tests to keep. They give you a long story about how difficult it is to develop their NCLEX style questions, but it seriously amounts to laziness. What better way to learn from your mistakes than to spend a few hours figuring what you got wrong and why? Heaven forbid they have to come up with new questions for every exam. All of the real professors that teach the prereqs do new questions.

The worst of the instructors are technologically challenged individuals and extremely disorganized. You won't know what is going on because they don't know themselves.

I won't say this is good or bad, but if you do not believe in God you will hear plenty about Him. A few of them keep their religion to themselves and others do not. I seem to recall something about the church and state in the Constitition.

Clinical sites are limited since there is a lot of competition for them. Too many schools in the area ramped up their programs. Your clinical RN may be fresh out of school and you will suffer for it.

The biology courses you take as prereqs are taught by some fantastic people. You are much better off if you aren't a transfer student applying to the program. The earlier complaint about the genetics course was valid. I hated that course with a passion. Two-thirds of the the information is taught by a biologist that is given one-third of the semester to teach it. The rest of the class was a casual stroll through the nursing implications of genetics. The class has been "fixed". The biology portion is now a prereq and the nursing portion is taught in the nursing program.

Since they are still trying to fix their new program, they change the requirements for graduation at will. This is another academic no-no.

Still a good school, but not the school it used to be. Make sure they disclose the current NCLEX pass rates before you apply.
