I just wanted to run this up the flagpole and see what response i got. How many of you on here believe that this site should be limited to only licensed nurses? No patients,no wanna be nurses and no nursing students. Should these... Read More

One good thing about this site is that there are many subforums so you can find just the right niche for you. Many posters (myself included) started out in the pre-nursing forum and made their way through the ranks. I know the ER forum tends to attract most of the trolls (and kind of parallels its real-life place in medicine) but like others said, you pretty much know what's going to happen in vent threads, so either skip them, or roll your eyes at the more foolish and ignorant comments and move on.

BTW some of the most foolish and ignorant comments I've seen on this site were from nurses in one specialty towards nurses who work in a "less cool" specialty.

I still think this site should not be open to patients/lay people. Same with MAs. I pretty much ignore the student stuff and the 50,000 million threads like, "Just got hired and am pregnant...now what?" or "75 on NCLEX...did I pass?"

I belong to another site that absolutely forbids laypeople/patient posts. It can be done.

Thank you for the well wishes. When I graduate at the top of my class I'll be sure to send you an invitation.

Around the time that allnursescentral came about, a post was made, coming from the honchos, that more than one spinoff site was being planned. A logical expectation was that the student venue would be the next new site endeavor. Some time in the recent past it was stated that this is no longer on the table.

The OP joined last month, so that post came from a new member trying to remove a segment of the population that they did not want to deal with. (Unless they mede a whole new acct for some reason...) While i appreciate seasoned members of this site feeling that way, it suprises me that anyone would support kicking students, future nurses, off of a community that had up till now welcomed them(more or less). There is nothing stopping anyone from building a web site for licensed nurses only. (and it seems there are ones that already exist). I support licensed nurses having an exclusive place to post, i just dont think it is right to remove a support system that future nurses rely on out from under them.

Okay since I started this topic i guess i can go off topic, it may be petty but being the "family nurse" is not the same as being a RN. Statements like that demean and belittle my profession and my many years of education and training.
    blast away

It's also just a little cocky. I'm with you on this.

I realize that whether the OP was new or not, they probably did not read about the plans for other allnurses branded sites that was previously discussed here. Providing the information does not come with an opinion either way. Plans for a student specific site, which might have been beneficial in its own right, along with other site specifics, came from the owner/admins of this site, not from the general members.

No patients,no wanna be nurses and no nursing students. Should these be truly a site where nurses can come and vent with no fear of being scolded for being "mean" or "burned out". Would it make this a better site?
Out of curiousity, how do you plan on carrying that out?

And have not seen the site fail but rather thrive. Granted, there have been few annoyances every now and then, but this is not an elitist club. And should remain that way.

but if carrying out your plan would curtail the number of potential nurses then it just might work

Why can't we all just get along?

I appreciate the info you provided.**Your neutrality is appreciated as well! ** It helps put the discussion into context. I was adding the length of the OP's membership as another refference point. I can understand a long time member watching the site morph into what it is and being frustrated at the population that it now serves. But alas, i am not the owner of this site nor an admin so i have no control over it either way.

Hi, I'm a wanna-be nurse, soon to be full fledged nursing student, so I guess that means I shouldn't be responding to this post. My Bad.
    Childish at best.
