I just wanted to run this up the flagpole and see what response i got. How many of you on here believe that this site should be limited to only licensed nurses? No patients,no wanna be nurses and no nursing students. Should these... Read More

I found another nursing site that has a section that is limited to nurses only. One has to provide their nursing license information in order to access the "nursing only" section, which, of course, from the looks of it, has the nursing content some people might be seeking as opposed to vents, student inquiry, etc. The remainder of that particular site has little to offer. I really do not see the point of blocking off the real "meat" of the professional discussion from those who want to keep their professional information confined to their state Board lookup link. If I have a question that I would like to pose to nurses, at least I can ask that question here, without subjecting myself to the Spanish Inquisition.

Yikes caliotter3! I would not feel comfy giving out my personal info like my license number - even here on allnurses and to Brian, as much as I like and respect him.

I learned the hard way though - as a newbie on the internet.

It did not take me long to see that the other site was not a welcoming place for nurses or up and coming nurses.

Would it make this a better site?

allstudentnurses could be another site for students

allieverwantedtoaskanurse could be a separate site for patients but isn't that what webMD is for?

As a pre nursing student and soon to be Nursing student, (I start in the fall!) I dont blame the OP for wanting a private site for Licensed nurses. I even get annoyed with half of the student nurse posts.(Especially when students post the "ADN or BSN?" question for the 5,000 time!) i just think blocking off this site is the wrong way to go about it. Why kick thousands of people off so that this place is more to your liking? That is a pretty selfish solution. Someone mentioned a site that was restricted to licensed nurses earlier in this thread. Why not go there? or make your own site? Did you do any research into where this type of site might exist before posting on here that you want to kick off all of the students(who are chastized for the same thing... posting without doing their own research)

Is this ironic to anyone else?

Around the time that allnursescentral came about, a post was made, coming from the honchos, that more than one spinoff site was being planned. A logical expectation was that the student venue would be the next new site endeavor. Some time in the recent past it was stated that this is no longer on the table.

Nursing is my second career - I went back to school in my late 30's. Became a nurse at 40.

I had NO idea what nurses did. I had NO idea there was a difference between LVN's and RN's and had never heard of LPN's. I didn't know how nurses got their education. I was surprised at how many different ways there were to become a nurse. I was also surprised at the politics involved in nursing.

The BSN vs. ADN debate was foreign to me.

Those of us who have been here awhile and are more informed about all this simply must bypass those threads if they bug you.

I don't look at any NCLEX threads anymore. Sometimes I venture into BSN vs. ADN stuff as I just got my BSN a couple of years ago.

Allnurses needs to be a place were newbies can come and ask the same questions that I asked way back when. I'm sure my questions then made some folks roll their eyes and say "not again". But, how will people learn about nursing if they can't ask the fundamental beginning questions about nursing?

It's the same for every profession - people come in not knowing much and there are many folks here on AN who enjoy teaching. I do so miss Daytonite.

Just bypass those threads you are not interested in.

I started coming to this site when I was a confused CNA -- starting off in my second career in health care --and wondering what I had gotten myself into. This site is what kept me going through that phase of my life, through nursing school and now as a nurse.

I do go sometimes lurk in the specialized posts because I learn so much, even though as an LPN I will probably never work in an ICU or the ER, but there is still much to learn there. Hopefully, I would not be banned from doing that because of my lowly education.

I also learn a lot from the newbies, the students, the CNAs, and all the other posters, young and old and in-between and I hope that they willl always be allowed to come here; it keeps me grounded.

So no. I do not think we should make people submit their credentials to post here. You'd have to be crazy to submit you licensing info to a public forum, and also, who is going to be the one verifying that all those license submissions are valid anyway?

    Dumb idea.
