Strange day at work today

Two strange things happened at work today. Tell me what you think.

1. My pt was having problems with her catheter leaking, so another nurse went out, changed the catheter, and inflated the balloon to 45 cc. Her husband called and said it was not working. I went out and he says " that balloon fell out of her so I put it back in". I check the catheter, repositioning gently, and sure enough I get a little bit of urine in the catheter and it seems to be in place. I was ASTOUNDED! :uhoh3: Can you imagine a 45 cc balloon A. falling out and B. being shoved back in?!!! (I removed the catheter and tried replacing it, but it continued to leak so we are leaving it out for a few days).

2. I had a pt 'fire' me 2 weeks ago, and I was a little upset because I really liked the lady and it seemed to come out of the blue. Well I found out today that the reason the lady asked I not come back is because she really liked me and did not think I should have to be the one to deal with her pain clinic. Isn't that nice?:yeah: It really says something about that darn pain clinic though...

Erin,

All I can say about the cath is OUCH!

About the pt firing you, that is just too sweet.

had a patient in the past who would "expel" a fully inflated balloon 30 cc or so - apparently we are not all built the same (joking) though it boggles my mind as well how large or may be just how little muscle tone there may be to let the balloon slide out; with my pt it was impossible to assess if she had occasional bladder spasms; still beats me;

and i hope you get your lovely considerate pt back!
