need info on hospice

I've been thinking about trying hospice nursing. What kind of experience do you need ? I've been working medical intensive care for about 6 mos now and this is my only work experience as an RN. Just curious if any one would like to give me some info. Thanks!

med surg experience is good for hospice. I love hospice nursing, it is the place where i can practice all the skills that i was taught in school and really feel rewarded. Oh yes, there are bad days but most hospices are filled with loving caring people to hold you up on those days, the medical directors are great to work with and treat you as though you have a brain, and you can get your patients comfortable.

My hubby runs a hospice and I have been a hospice volunteer for over 10 years. You could call them and say your interested in learning more about being a hospice nurse and ask if you can shadow an RN. I have seen that help alot of unsure nurses decide. Just a thought. I think the biggest thing is the mindset your not in there to save the world like critical care your helping them live their last days out with dignity.
