Does anyone use this service? How does it work? Do you evaluate the wound and tell them what you need ? How is the cost and what product line do they uuse - thanks for any info.

Sorry, I don't know about THIS service. I did talk to a wound care rep recently, though and he was all for selling us very high end products i.e. silver impregnated stuff, cell growth promoter.. Cost is a concern anywhere but especially in hospice. One experienced" hospice nurse had me try Icthammol 20% ointment. This is a sterile shale oil that has antibiotic, antifungal and antimicrobial properties. (Very little about product on internet.) This product is stinky and dark but works. Very cheap $3.00-$5.00 per tube. We have healed St II to St IV. Works better with alginate in deeper wounds. Who knew?

No, we are not using it but we got the pitch from them. As I recall, you report the size, type, appearance of the wound and there are established protocols for the treatment. They send the supplies directly to the home just like they do with the meds. You pay a per diem amount for the service.

Although we us HP for our meds, we do not use them for wound care. Previously we had used Palliative Pharmacy Solutions for our wound care as well as med needs; now we buy a mixed bag of wound care supplies ourselves. I imagine that it is off limits to discuss my experiences with both companies. ???

I am interested in the shale oil ointment listed above. Where can I find more info?

We use HP for our medications, but not for wounds. I did not realize they also offered this service. Thanks for the info. HP is great, they have their formulary book that you can look things up in, it's a great cheat sheet, and learning tool.
