Average patient load

Good Evening,

I am currently an LPN working in a Home Health Hospice position. My question is this....on average how many patients do you see in a given day, with the hours of say 8:30-5:00? I am currently working for a company and originally we were told 4-5 patients per day, and now they want 6-7 pts. per day, not including going back to the office to do chart updates, etc. And sometimes there is a good 15+ miles between patients. Just looking for input!

Default Re: Average patient load
We are required to see 4-5 patients a day if there are that many visits available. The admission nurse does 2 a day because of all of the paper work and follow up required. 6-7 is a lot if you are traveling, if they are in Nursing Homes without travel it is possible to see that many. However the new COPs require us to do the same in SNFs that we do in the home, includes a full assessment as well as wound care, etc. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply! For the most part I am on the road everyday. Since March 13th, I have put over 7,000 miles on my vehicle. And at this point we do full head to toe assessments and like you mentioned wound care, etc. I am really upset about the company I am working for at this moment, because they want us all to have 6-7 patients a day. I really don't think that is possible. Would love to hear from more of you hospice nurses out there! Thanks again, Kim
