Tired HH nurse

  1. 0
Hi everyone , please share your thoughts about this. I love HH and have been doing it 13 years. I did pt care, management,QA, now back in the field. I feel like I have achieved nothing and wasted a lot of time and money too. I got my BSN almost 5 years ago but seems like noone in HH needs it. I have new grads working alongside with me making almost same money. Management is worse than ever, and I have to fight for one lousy week off. Understand that I worked for several HH companies. They are all the same. Plus this is a very dirty business, enormous paper work requirements, and they correct my oasis answers for me! I am so mad and upset I don't know what to do. I don't think I can do hospital nursing though. I tried and couldn't. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You sound very burned out. I've been in HH for 11 years and I'm soooo burned out. Its all about the profits now. Doing the Oasis now makes me want to throw up. Its so stressful and they will question you about every answer. Experience counts for nothing. I can't go back to the hospital due to a bad back. I'm applying for case management jobs with the insurance companies but I'm not sure about that either. I'm lost...

Well, I've been working in HH for almost a year and I am already burnt to a crisp! I have worked 7 days per week for the last I don't know how many weeks and I am feeling angry and depressed about the situation. My agency will give me a day off in the middle of the week only to have a patient need a visit and there is no one else to do it...so off I go to see that patient. I really can't take anymore of this and have set up a couple of interviews for positions in other areas of nursing.

I'm tired of working 10-12 hrs/day for 8 hrs of pay. I never have time to get it all done & they just keep piling it on! At this point I think I'd work anywhere that I can go home to my family at a normal hour & actually have a life!

Thanks for the comments. When I read about other HH nurse's frustration, it gives my feelings validation. I don't feel so alone in the situation. I have talked with a physical therapist from my company and he reminded me that they are struggling too. I would quit today but I have only been with this company a few months and I'm worried how my resume will look.

OMG.. here I am sitting on Sunday night, trying to pull myself together to do my paperwork which makes me absolutely nauseous by just even thinking about it!!! Every time I am about to do my paperwork I research which jobs are available out there. I have worked for Home Health for 7 years and burned out, I drive further than most nurses will and of course for that reason late with papers most of the time...Just like the other person said.. My day off on the mid. week and mostly answer is on my day off is """ Sorry honey we cant cover your patients"" so what you know.. no days off and tons of paper work!!! I have to admit I get paid well... but not sure if it worth giving up your life, my family hates my job because of always paper work have to do ...YAK!!!!! ...I have tried offices as clinical supervisor but having hard time sitting in one place for 8 hours, home health is like addiction that you have to withdraw later on... Sometimes I wish I can just be a server and leave medical field altogether.... Thank you for reading my post I felt like i had to get it off my chest.... I try to look for jobs on craigslist.org ... sometimes I see interesting offers there... Good luck dear nurses !!!

I'm 9 months in and I hate it horribly. I'm never not working. If I'm not getting called by patient on the weekend when I'm halfway out of the shower, I have mounds and mounds of paperwork that is never caught up. It's just me and my 5 year old and she hates it too.Not to mention I get paid the least I have since being a new grad 7 years ago, and they expect me to make the job my life and work like a dog. Ummmm no. Alena, Ive been thinking of a career at hooters. Make good tips, I love the wings, the orange shorts aren't all that bad.I'm in the running for another job. Work from home on the computer and I won't even have to talk to anymore. I made it through the tests and interviews, only problem is they aren't hiring as of December. They told me they plan to be hiring soon and when they are closer, I will get the onsite interview ( last step)I'm done working like a dog in this profession. Thanks for letting ME get that off my chest.

I actually like HH, but not the agency I'm at now. I stepped into the DON position when they needed it and much the same story as some of you. Unable to get steady employees in this very rural area, I've done 34% of 947 visits last year. It's impossible to budget in this place as they have their own "system". Now I've been informed I'm being replaced with a new DON because I haven't been marketing enough and keeping the census up enough. I, too, am trying to find a new job.
