share something amusing

by cny4rn

Thought it would be fun to share amusing stories with one another about our home health visits.

The other day I was seeing a sweet little alzheimer's patient for the first time. Her caregiver was there and we were discussing view points on extreme measures being taken in end of life situations and the caregiver stated "I wouldn't want to be a vegetable!" The patient quickly added " I wouldn't want to be a vegetable either, I'd want to be a fruit!"

I have this absolutely sweetheart of a patient that I am seeing for a coccyx decub. He recently finished up radiation tx for prostate CA, and he has such a good outlook and sense of humor about everything! I was asking him about when/how they were going to do any follow up for it. He said ( with a straight face) -" My doc likes to do a digital exam...but he uses 2 fingers because he wants a second opinion!" I all but died laughing!

That is hilarious!! Thanks for sharing!

I see that you work with the VNA. Since they are a non-profit company are they less about the census and more about the patient?

Overall yes - we have numerous no-fee patients b/c we have to d/c from MC but still need wound care, ostomy care, etc. We do try to set them up with a supply co. so we do not have that expense too. We do try to keep census up if at all possible, but that is not our driving force. I love that about my job

My patient has told some others that I will try to remember and share. I love people...don't you?

I do love people! I always think when I am feeling discouraged and disheartened with nursing it is the patients that keep me going!
