Nursing is full of blissful moments

What is it that you love to do that gives you bliss? I find that nursing is a profession that gives me bliss. I am a home care nurse and finding the time to accomplish my job is endless. We are given large caseloads where time to provide special moments are limited, but we as nurses, have to maintain our profession and find creative ways to do our job. I used to have a member who would not go outdoors. She always considered it too cold or too hard, yet she always spoke about finding the right man. One day I visited her and as she spoke, I used her charisma to my advantage and encouraged her to go outdoors. I informed her how beautiful it was and how many handsome men were outside, instead of my usual how important exercise is, or how great this would be for her health, and for her arthritis. To my surprise this worked. She went downstairs with me and as we walked together, she smiled at the men around her block. We went into a bakery and as we walked out I stated, "See all the handsome men are outdoors and you can see them every day." A group of young men were close to us and one of them told her "Yes, get ready for there is a big dance tonight." My member looked at me and gave me a big smile. Her family saw me weeks later and informed me how the member spoke of the event and since then she goes out 2-3 x per week. "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." ― Leo Buscaglia
