need a home health RN for preceptorship

  1. Hello all,

I am 3 months from graduating from PN school and need advice on finding a preceptor nurse. I want to go into home health nursing as this has been my plan since the beginning of school. The director of nursing at my school has informed us that we can find our own precep. as long as it is an RN who has had a license for 3 years. I figured that It would make sense to precep in the area that I want to specialize in.
Problem is, I don't know where to start looking!

Yes, they offer preceptors at the school but it is no difference then med-surg clinicals with 5 to 10 students under 1 Rn. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    a. ask at the facilites you practice as a student, which homecare agencies does facility have on their list or discharge patients choose.
social worker/case manager or discharge planner should have this info available.

    b. visiting nurse associations (vnas) created the profession of home health care more than 100 years ago; they are the official national association for not-for-profit, community based home health organizations. website:find a vna (visiting nurse

    c. national assocaition for homecare has locator service: http://www.nahc.org/agencylocator/

    d. look in phone book under home health care or nurses.

you will need to make a few calls, ask to speak with the nurse educator or nurse recruiter.

anyone in philadelphia, pa interested can contact me. good luck in your search!

Hope you were able to find a preceptor. If you got one from an agency they just might offer you a job once you graduate.
