Interview HH/Private Duty

Hi. I posted this on the private duty forum but perhaps I'll get some responses here...

I am a new grad and have an interview with a homecare agency that does private duty cases. What types of questions should I ask to determine how the company treats its employees (particularly, RNs)? What kinds of things should a private duty nurse be aware of before deciding to go with a certain agency? I guess what I'm asking is, what are specific questions I can ask at the interview to determine if I'll have adequate support-- esp. as a new grad. ??

Thanks!

The problem with asking questions at the interview, is that most of the time they will tell you immediately what they think you want to hear, canned answers from the "we take care of our employees" genre. You will find out best how you will be treated by talking to a variety of current employees who are willing to discuss their experiences with the particular agency, both good and bad. You can find generalized evaluations of certain, particularly nationwide, companies on this site or others by reading responses over a period of time. An example is Bayada. Lots of positive input. Another example is Amedysis. Lots of negative input. You have to draw your own conclusions. Best of luck finding a good agency.
