I got the bedbugs from my patient.

I do PPD. Noticed about two weeks ago that I found a random crawling thing --- killed it, thought whatever. Last two weeks I realized that my patient has a bedbug infestation. I called it in, recorded it, etc.

Now I have a bed bug problem. I'm looking at having to buy a new mattress and fumigate my home...

Hey, maybe if you weren't such a dirty hippie...

Kidding, but I HAD to!

I'm sorry this happened. I work in the hospital and bugs were found in a patient room. It was not a pleasant experience. A friend also got lice from a patient!

I hope everything turns out okay!

I've noticed some crawlies at my patient's place. Haven't been too disturbed by them, except I've noticed lately that they seem to have proliferated and just today, I have several bites on me that started to bother me during my shift today. Great. I have enough trouble keeping my abode free of pests, now I have to fumigate myself going to and from work it seems.

This is a HUGE worry of mine as I've heard that they are nearly impossible to get rid of. What can we do to stay bedbug free? Anyone???

We ended up fumigating and buying a new mattress and couch. (Which I've wanted forever so heeeey score one for me.) Patient's mom was able to use my evidence as a reason to get her slumlord to finally pay to fumigate and fix up her run-down apartment which was a score for her, too.

However, I've taken to only wearing certain scrubs to certain homes. My drill is to wear X scrubs to X house, then I change into another set of clothing in the bathroom of the patient's house right before I leave. X scrubs go into a plastic trash bag and are immediately taken downstairs and washed in hot water when I get home. This also seems to be working with another family that I work with who occasionally has fleas. (And I have animals, too, so...)
