Agencies with Benefits

by pat8585

I am wondering if home care agencies typically offer employee benefits.
The one I work for now does not, and I am wondering if this is common.

edit-I am LPN

The agency I work for offers benefits for full-time employees only. I've worked for a handful of other agencies over the years and I don't remember ever having health benefits with any of them, although I was only full-time with one. Now that I think of it, that one did offer health insurance, although I found out I was pregnant two weeks after starting and they wouldn't insure me because it was considered a pre-existing condition.

The agencies I have worked for in the past have offered benefits for full time 28, 30, or 32 hours per week. One of them (the union one), would allow the individual to pay into the benefit for any week that they did not meet the minimum number of hours worked.

I work agency and I do get health benefits but I am paying $180 A WEEK!!! for it. In my case its the only insurance I can get due to a previous cancer diagnosis. They also offer AFLAC and Paid Time Off after you work an ungodly amt of hours. Would I change it? No. I like being able to take off whenever I want and work as much as I want with no commitment.

Our agency offers bennies for over 20 hours. Full time employees have paid and free insurance options. The free option is a comprehensive package that covers everything but name brand drugs. I'm an LPN as well. That said, we have a sister agency that is under our umbrella that offers no benefits whether you work full time hours or not.

The agency I work for offers benefits for full time (32 hours and up). The benefits are good, and cost about $55 (depends on what you select for your benefits) per week. I know others in our area offer benefits also, there are 3 huge companies, that are hospital based and offer benefits.

It has been my experience that companies that do not offer any types of benefits are generally not companies you want to work for. If they won't invest in their employees, what else do they not invest in.

I work for 2 different agencies, the first one hires only PRN and offers benefits only if you pay for them in their entirety. I have no idea how much they cost, because I don't use them. But they are through CareFirst BCBS, so they are decent. We are also given the option to be contract or employees, and even at the employee rate are paid per visit, and make double what I make at my other agency. At my other agency, benefits are offered to employees that are PT or FT, and I pay $49 bi weekly for health ins, and nominal fees for dental, vision, etc. These are also CareFirst BCBS.
