I am considering an independent distributorship of a product that I find helpful . Do you think it is unwise of me to use my RN status behind my name when having the cards made. I am not making any claims of curative properties attached to this product and will denote on the card that I am an independent distributer. Any thoughts on this? Thank you

*** My feeling is that you earned it and if you are engaged in an endevor that will not give nursing a black eye then you should use it. Several of the nurses I work with have R.N. after their names on their checks. Lots of nurses put RN after their name every time they sign their name.

If what you are doing is above board and you are willing to stand behind it I say us RN.

( I am assuming that you are in fact an registered nurse with an active license)

To know for sure, would be best to check with your board of nursing.

Thanks PMFB and Eric, Yes I am an RN . But I will contact the BON just to make sure there is no conflict. I'll post again if they say No but I see lots of business cards with LMT and Physical Therapist who are in the same distributorship that I want to be in. I would think that if there was a problem they would not be allowed to do so. It is for a nutritional product so I am not making any claims. But I would rather be safe than sorry and have a problem in the future. Thanks

There should be no problem with using RN with your card. You may want to check out the Nurse Entrepreneur Forum; you can find a link in my signature line.

of course, it give you credibility that you have earned to discuss health & wellbeing of a client. A heard a statistic from a hospital lawyer recently saying that clients are more likely to find nurses ethical & honest when delivering information that other such as physician, a lawyer or other practitioner. I thought that was interesting. Many clients see the nurse as a peer. So there is hopefully an inherent trust in the use of the title, RN.

I would only use it if the product you are selling has a health related aspect. ie. I used to purchase a service regularly from an RN, but I only found out she was an RN by accident. She was my barber. Plenty of RN's are making their living doing unrelated things. For them to put "RN" on their cards is silly and pretentious.

On the other hand sometimes you need all the clout you can generate in order to get noticed. I don't use business cards but I sometimes write over an "RN" letter head.

I would say yes to using RN after your name on your business cards. You earned it and it gives you credibility. I use it on mine.
