by alphabet Feb 27, '08Hi-
Has anyone come across a distance learning program offering an accredited BS or MS in Holistic Nursing/ Alternative Medicine or Integrative Medicine?
I am a single mom, nurse massage therapist raising a 12 year old and cannot commute or relocate to continue my education. It seems with the rising popularity of Holisitic Nursing and Alternative Medicine practices - there would be a distance learning program out there. So far have only come across certification programs and programs that would require a relocation. If anyone has any ideas - please share!!
Thanks -

I have been following this school for awhile and deciding
which direction I want to go if I decide to attend this school. They have great programs!
BS to PhdD
http://www.gcnm.com/index.html
They have a branch school at:
This offers alternative studies for nurses in holistic nursing.
Recommended from AHNA Certificate, no degree.

I have not found everything on American Holistic Nurses Assoc.
They have a good listing but not total.
Also Dr Andrew Weil can check his website www.drweil.com
has a program at Arizona State http://www.integrativemedicine.arizona.edu/
There are some excellent nutritional medicine.
certificate classes for non MD health professionals.
Best To You, would love hearing if you have found others. - Jun 9, '08 by KatnipPhoenix Online has an MSN with integrative healthcare. I'm kind of eyeballing it, but don't know exactly what I'd do with it yet.
- Jun 14, '08 by zahryiaI thnk we need to explore all options as they're not enough RN 'holistic' programs.
Honestly, I don't think any of the CAM programs should have a BSN or MSN attached to it. It looks good on your resume, but I haven't seen any that are comprehensive enough.
Katnip, since you're in MD, maybe you should look into the TAI Sophia Institute. Looks like a great program. - Jun 17, '08 by KatnipQuote from zahryiaI actually have seen the TAI Sophia Institute. It does look like a great program. It's in PA or CA, and most courses last at least a week. Getting time off to go is my greatest challenge right now.I thnk we need to explore all options as they're not enough RN 'holistic' programs.

i just joined allnurses.com to post this same query.
i came across the clayton college of natural health through the ahna newsletter. the program, very similar to gcnm (global college of nat. med) recommended on this forum, is exactly what i am looking for.
the problem is the accreditation. i emailed the ahncc who handles board certification for holistic nurses. this is their reply:
"nursing programs that are endorsed by ahncc are undergraduate or graduate degree programs from accredited universities like the university of michigan, or texas. clayton college is not accredited and because it is not accredited is not eligible for endorsement.
in addition, i am sorry to say that because it is not accredited by a university accrediting organization baccalaureate degrees from the clayton college do not meet the baccalaureate degree requirement for application for certification in holistic nursing."
i too am searching for an accredited distance learning bs in holistic nutrition or health & wellness. have you had any further luck?
