Re: Thinking of nursing but in holistic way,
check out Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, CA. They have it going on! Rauni King, RN, CHTP/I & Dr Mimi Guarneri have placed this in their priority to give patients holistic care with the best allopathic care.
I practice holism as I can. I was practicing in CCU more than in the ER where I was the primary caregiver for 12+ hours. I could give that emotional support, connect to the spirit of that patient & family member. I am in PACU now & it's a challenge when the goal is to wake them up & get them to a comfortable room in a timely manner. The patient may not remember my name but you can bet I layed my hands on them & spoke a kind word of encouragement intpheir ear. I have my part time private practice in Massage Therapy, Healing Touch & education. This is where I can really take the time to do holistic care. I can talk about diet, exercise, relaxation response, skin care,etc...during their time (1 or more hours) with me. I get as much out of this as the clients.
