New Nurse Needs Advice

by Pele

Hi AllNurses,

I'm about to graduate from an associates degree program. I've gone from elation to fear that I won't be able to hack it in medsurg. (where i'm told i'll need to work before i do anything else) I'm a very holistic minded person, I don't really believe in western medicine, or heroic measures to "save lives". My beliefs don't really jive with many of the hospital policies i've experienced. I understand that I will have to separate my beliefs from my work as a nurse, and I'm prepared to do that, but I really want to work as a hospice nurse or in a birth center. Can someone explain to me the reality of career options that await me and my two year degree? I'm in NYC. Thanks for any and all advice.
Pele

Default Re: New Nurse Needs Advice
I am using my nursing in a prevention/wellness model. I teach healthy living, and there are many neat things that I am doing right now, and I am working with a group of holistic nurses on a project. You can email me with any questions at herbalnurse919@msn.com. Thanks, Joyce Harrell
