Can someone clarify holistic nursing?

Sorry for my ignorance, I just started researching holistic nursing about 2 hrs ago and have a bunch of questions!
I'm an LPN soon to be going back for my RN.
Where can you find jobs in holistic nursing? I have never seen it advertised in the paper and the only reason I found out about this field was because our car salesman and I got on a talk about health. His wife practices holistic ways but does NOT use her nursing license for it. I was and still am confused as to how you can practice something without being a doctor??!!?? Anyway, where can i learn the basics and how can I get into it? I'm very much into alternative medicine and practice it at home. I need holistic info 101 :-) Thanks!

check the American Holistic Nurses' Association website for answers to your questions as well as several good references on the subjects. They have a text as well as Standards for Holistic Nursing. There is a Board Certification approved by ANCC in HN. As for practicing medicine without a license....that is illegal. I practice nursing as well as massage therapy & bodywork but uphold my AL license when I do. Check with your state's Nurse practice act as to what RN's are licensed to do. Also check the website for complimetary & alternative medicine (CAM) as the gov't has an office that researches just this.
Holistic nurses are trained in different specialies. Mine is Healing Touch, a form of energy healing. HN's also assist in guided imagery, hypnosis, progressive muscle relaxation, reflexology, weight & nutritional counseling, health education, etc. as the list is quite long. Kudos to you for your interest!
