Is there more than one HESI exam?

  1. 1
Hello all. I've been studying for the HESI (which I'm taking Oct. 11th) and whenever I search for "pre-tests" I get results for an A-2 test and some other versions. The test I registered for was simply the HESI and I was told (by the college -- hopefully not because they just want to make money) that the best study guide was the HESI Admission Assessment 3rd edition. So, I studied the math section and then went online to see if I could find some practice tests and the questions were not similar - a few but, not many. I was on "proprofs.com" and "quizlet.com" and they didn't ask any algebra or fraction questions to name a few but those topics are in the book. I felt like I studied for the wrong exam. Does anyone know, if I am studying from the 3rd edition book by Elsevier -- is this a good study guide? Would anyone happen to know a good site for some pre-test questions? Any input appreciated! Thank you!!

Yes that is a good study guide. I would look over the algebra section but don't worry too much about algebra. The math consists of mostly adding subtracting multiplying and dividing fractions, also proportions and ratios. There are some other general math questions but we had a on screen calculator. Hope this helps!

Quizlet works great even with vocab, grammar, reading comprehension. I'm not certain about the math on quizlet. however, i did purchase a book last year by Mosby Elsevier, HESI evolve reach-Admission Assessment Exam Review-2nd Edition book. And between studying the math step by step there and watching YouTube videos online in simple steps, that helped me. I just passed my HESI entrance exam today!! Just study your math basics, addition, subtraction, division, fractions, percentages; conversions from decimal to percentage and vice versa, ratios...you should be good to go! One piece of advice you don't have to try to memorize everything it'll just stress you out. take your time but don't stay stuck on one topic...move on and focus on your weakest subject. You'll get in don't worry. If I can do it, so can you!!

    Hi there,

Thank you for the useful info! I can honestly say that what I'm most worried about on the hesi is the math part. I know its all basic math but what I'm most worried about is the word problem questions. I get so thrown off as to what it's asking me to do. I can do the math (conversions, fractions, addition, etc.) but when it's in a word problem format I get confused. :\ do you recall if there were a lot of word problems in the math section? I'm pretty confident that I won't have much problem on reading, grammar, and everything else.

Hi again everyone, so, I took the HESI today and I got an overall score of 84%. I feel like my individual grades are a little scattered but, I did pass everything and theoretically can use this test to apply to my school (Gloucester County College in NJ). I got an 88% in biology, but a 72% in chemistry (70% required). I didn't have to do the A&P section. an 82% in math (this is the last section I did and I think I was tired because I didn't find the math to be that difficult and thought I did better). anyway, 90% on reading comprehension, grammar & vocab 86% and 850 on critical thinking. I was an A/B student in the classroom (A's in Chem I & II, B's in A&P I & II, and an A in Micro). I'm wondering if I have to take this exam again or if an 84% overall will be good enough? Also, I see people post their scores like "850, 900, 1043" ... is this an old system of grading the HESI? because the only thing I read in my results was "an overall score of 84%." unless that equates to an 840? anyway, i'm looking for opinions on whether the 84% is sufficient. any thoughts are appreciated. thank you

These score apply to the HESIs that some programs give at the end of the semester as well as a final comprehensive HESI exam.

How was the math section? Were there a lot of word problems? basic math is easy but word problems throw me off! also, how did you study for the vocabulary?

oh ok -- thanks 203bravo. apham - the math section was not hard at all. it's basically what the first person told me (above) when I asked. which was ... "Yes that is a good study guide. I would look over the algebra section but don't worry too much about algebra. The math consists of mostly adding subtracting multiplying and dividing fractions, also proportions and ratios. There are some other general math questions but we had a on screen calculator. Hope this helps!" to answer your question about word problems, there were a few word problems but not a lot and they were not bad at all (nothing like statistics word problems if that's what you're thinking .. lol). math was the last section I did - I think I was tired and making stupid mistakes because I really thought I did better than an 82%. for the vocabulary section, I basically studied the glossary in the HESI study guide. I also did the practice test in the book several times this way, whatever words I was having a hard time remembering, would start to stick in my head. so, what do you think of my overall score? do you think it's good enough to apply? or should I give it another shot?? any thoughts?
