HELP! Bombed the HESI Entrance Test

Nursing Students HESI

Published

I took the HESI pre-entrance test today and BOMBED scoring 72.5%. I need a minimum of 77% to even be considered for the program.

I got the Elsevier review book and studied for 10 days. I took the 4 practice tests in the back of the book but I dont think it helped enough. There were questions on the practice tests that were not covered in the review chapters.

I got a 68% on the Math (improper fractions killed me) and had trouble with the Bio section. I did OK on the AP part but there were questions I didnt know even though I studied the review book. I completed AP I this

Fall (got a B+) and I am registered for AP II starting in two weeks. I passed Algebra I and II with a B+.

I am frustrated. I am a 3.6 GPA in the pre-nursing classes, I work a full-time job and a part-time job as a Nurse Assistant in the ER (16 hours a week) to make me more competitive when I apply. I go to school two nights as week to complete the pre-reqs. I am a returning student after 20 years and I truly want to be a nurse. The clinical experience in the ER I love and I have learned a great deal in a short period of time

Does anyone have any advice on how to better prepare for the re-take test? I have two weeks to get ready and this re-take is my last shot for me to apply for the Fall 2009 class. You can only take the test twice in one

application year.

Thanks for your help and guidance

Does anyone know if all accelerated nursing programs require the HESI exam? One of the programs I'm looking into (UMDNJ) doesn't say anything about it on their website. I thought it was a standard entrance exam everywhere.

Hi Lady_Vol i have a few questions to ask you.

I was wondering the book u posted is that still current for a 2010 HESI exam?

I am not sure how the test goes, it will be my first time taking it after this semester. I appreciate if you send me a message back.. Thank you

I took the hesi yesterday and passed everything, but the vocab.I tried to focus on the other things because I thought the vocab would not be that hard.I missed it by 6 points.I have to wait till march to take it again, but I would like to be prepared.Does anyone know good study guides for vocab?I also just passed the chem and math portion and would like to improve my grades on them too.

u can read my post on the HESI admissions exam to help u on your vocab. I just used the HESI entrance exam Study guide (EVOLVE REACH) to help me study. Good Luck!

I think that is the same one that I used (blue and yellow in color). Also, I used the guide that is available here on this site. The link is like mo-metrix something. If you do a search under Hesi it will pop up. Using these two guides, and studying for 5 days I crushed it (over 95% overall score). The guides will give you some helpful tips about test taking too. Make sure you take the time to learn the tips and apply them on exam day. Good luck! : )

I didn't read the whole thread, but is everyone talking about taking the HESI at Macomb or Baker? Which campus at Baker takes the HESI?? I'm at Clinton Township and we had to take the NET...But I also applied to MCC and took the HESI (and didn't do as well as I had hoped to) and used the blue and yellow study guide by evolve, and it was okay....

Anyone else applying to Baker Clinton Township for Spring 2010?? SOOO nervous about the letters, which should be here Feb. 1st!! :uhoh21:

i dont think you should take the test in 2 weeks. I called back to re take the test and i told them i wanted to take it in a month and they were ok with it. That test for me it was easy but ofcourse i did bad in it. Its hard because you have to pass all the subjects and if you dont you have to re take it. Its discouraging because i really want to get into nursing and its unfortunate that you can't get in until you pass this test. I hate it it makes me want to cry:uhoh3:

Do I need to know all of my conversions for the test? I am taking the entrance exam Friday March 5th. I didn't know if they would give me charts to do conversions like ounces and milliliters or do I need to have all of that memorized? I do have the evolve study guide and I have been doing the practice tests and sample questions. Please help me! I'm sooo scared I'm gonna bomb this test

hey how did u do in the test... i m taking it tomorrow can you give me some advice on how the math, reading, and vocab section was like please!! will really appreciate your help..

Sorry! I just saw this post. I did well. I got a 90 in math. I would say the reading section is the hardest b/c they have very similar answers to choose from.

I don't have a pdf of the study guide. SORRY.

Hi everyone. I take the HESI entrance test next Monday. SO far I've been focusing on A&P because I've been out of school for 6 years! I'm nervous! I purchased an online study guide, but it had so many grammatical errors in the questions that I just gave up on it. Right now I'm just using my old A&P book and using quizlet.com to see other people's study guides. Someone on here had suggested that. Hopefully I pass as well everyone else who is studying for it. Good luck future nurses!

Lady Vol, I am getting ready to get the Hesi exam and my concern is the reading part (I memorized all the vocab words) and I would like you to tell me, in what way was the reading comprehension different from the passages that are in the book( Evolve- ADMISSION ASSESSMENT), also if the "help" you mentioned it could be available for me too.
