Didn't pass again

Nursing Students HESI

So I took my hesi exam that was scheduled today, and I did not pass. I only had to take the reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, math, needless to say I got a 72 in reading comprehension, 70 in grammar, 76 in vocabulary, and a 58 in math... and my cumulative score was a 69... I just don't no where I went wrong, I am so tired of taking this test this was my third time, I am scheduled to take it again on the 25th of march...I really feel like giving up, or maybe I am just not a good test taker.:(

However you are studying, it obviously isn't working. Try something different: study with someone else, make flash cards, research things deeper, etc.

thank you

Buy the book from the people who make the exam. Study the math especially. Read every page for math, and do ALL the math examples and practice test. If you do this and understand it, you will make at least an 80 on the math part. The math part is exactly like it is in the book, just different numbers, and also memorize the conversions. I honestly don't know what to tell you about the other topics, because those aren't really things you can study for. They are honestly things that were covered in high school, so if you aren't doing well on it, I don't know how you'd be able to cram that kind of knowledge in so little time. However, study all the vocab words from the book too, some words showed up for my HESI. And do the practice tests for reading and grammar and also read their explanations and tips on these sections. Repetition and understanding the material will be key for you. I had to take all the subjects plus biology and A&P, so be lucky you only have to take these subjects. You can find the book on their website or just get it off amazon for cheap. If you study the book front to back for the sections you need, there is no reason you won't pass. Good luck :)

Those are bad scores but it is certainly not out of your grasp. Get the study guide take your time and focus first on math since it is your hardest subject. Practice practice practice. The Hesi is not a hard test just relax and prepare, most colleges/websites have free HESI practice tests rake advantage of these resources.

I just don't no where I went wrong

You mean you don't "know" where you went wrong. I'm sure that seems nitpicky, but that kind of basic mistake might indicate why you have some weakness on this test. I had to take HESI A2 for entrance to nursing school as well, and forgive me, but anyone who graduated from a halfway decent American high school should be able to pass that test. If you're having this much trouble, it seems you may need some remedial education. Speak to a guidance counselor at the college and find out what you can do to shore up your weaknesses. It only gets harder once you actually start school.

I agree with Red Kryptonite. If you are having repeated problems passing this test on high school level knowledge, you probably need to do some remedial work -- not just practice questions. You may need to take a remedial class or two to bring your foundational skills up to par to do college-level work. Nursing school classes will be at that higher level and you will need those skills to do well in school. That's the purpose of the test -- to confirm that applicants have the foundational skills to do college-level work.

Stop focusing on "quick fixes" that might get you through the test ... and start focusing on ways to build your foundational academic skills to prepare for college.

How are you studying? What materials are you using? Is English your native language? How long has it been since you were in high school?

I ask because this exam is basically a test of stuff you should have learned with in high school and be comfortable with. I am really not trying to knock you while you are down.

When it comes to math, download worksheets from online geared towards, fractions, etc and do them again, again, and again until you are eventually answering questions correctly on the first try. The math you will use on the HESI is a precursor to the math you will need to do in nursing, so a good foundation of competency is to be expected.

I wonder if there's an adult ed. center near you where you could brush up on some basic skills? Or if you're in college right now, find the tutoring center and get some hands-on help...Good luck! :)
