Stress Management

I am in an ADN program right now and I'm am starting my clinical rotation for Leadership. Part of the leadership course is to conduct a post conference which I have chosen the topic Stress Management. I am wondering if anyone has any input on ways to relieve stress while in nursing school or a test to see how stressed you are or any other ideas to bring up on the subject. Thanks!

    Hi MBlueRose,
Some examples that come to mind are Meditation (many different kinds), Exercise, Taking Me Time. Another idea is to give people stress dots that turn color based on how warm/relaxed they are. I am not sure how accurate they are but they provide a good laugh which is also a good stress reliever.

Hi MBlueRose, stress is a killer of a nurses career. I have been a nurse for 39 years and I have seen lots of great nurses burn out and lose out on their nursing and their personal lives. There are many ways , inexpensive and more costly to resolve and eliminate stress from nurses lives. I know I can't promote myself, but I can help.

Thanks for all the great ideas! My post conference went very well and everyone enjoyed the stress dots. They couldn't stop talking about them!

We all deal with stress in different ways. Some of us reside on the problems, while others will put their minds to good use and find a solution to the problems.

It is all how we deal with stress that determines if we are prolific or if we are headed for obliteration.

I hope these 71 posts on stress may help you... http://www.selfhelpzone.com/category/stress-management/

A few things that helped me deal with stress during school,...adequate sleep, staying organized, and having some "me" time like treating myself to something when I passed a really hard test.

But my true savior, the glue that held me together, was massage! Not only does it get rid of those nasty kinks in your neck from being hunched over your books at all hours of the night, it also releases endorphins, improves circulation, decreases anxiety, improves sleep,...I could go on all day! I guess thats where my love for being a massage therapist shows through,...

So as far as a "how stressed are you" test is concerned, I'm not familiar with a sure-fire way to do this. I do find that most people who are stressed hold all their "emotions" between the shoulder blades. Meaning that neck and shoulder muscles will be hard as rocks. (Ever been in bad traffic or have to slam on your breaks suddenly and find that your shoulders are shrugged so high up they are touching your ears?) You know, kinda like what nursing school does to you!!!!
    Good luck in your program!:spin:

Why didn't our Creator grant us the ability to give ourselves Shiatsu?
