by ampiskator Dec 11, '12I have been a RN for 3 years now. I noticed in nursing school and even more as a registered nurse that eating disorders are becoming more prevalent among our job titles . I have dealt with eating disorders with close friends before, but when I come to work.. its more of a competitive game. If we aren't dealing with the stresses of our patients..all the talk is "Calories".. "skipping lunch" .."I need to loose 10 lbs". I am worried for a couple of co workers.. Not quite sure how to handle the situation...
Anyone out there agree? Have any suggestion?

- Dec 11, '12 by eCCUI take protein shakes to work. lol i have protein powder in my locker, helps me stay away from junk. Breakfast 30 grams protein powder and am not hungry for a while. About 9ish-10ish high protein yogurt or apple lots of water even got my water container from Walgreens 2.5 liters rule is to have no water left when going home. Lunch i do carbs by way of veggies, sometimes i cheat just don't make ita habit. I have little containers to carry food so i do not over eat. 3ish snack and nothing after 8pm. This is after a lot of disciple but now its second nature. If i feel like French fries i mix a shake. I also set 1hr work out 5 days a week no excuses. Sounds like a lot but with the results i have zero regrets.... Running for a marathon in feb...;-)

- Dec 13, '12 by Esme12while we cannot offer medical advice....if you are truly worried.....approach them. I do know that nurses LOVE to talk about weight and those last 10 lbs. Nurses are always trying the next diet craze and looking to be healthier.
If you can't approach them maybe speak to your manager...maybe they can reassure you.
For you eat healthy.....take healthy snacks.VivaLasViejas likes this. - Dec 13, '12 by JustBeachyNurseThread moved to health and stress management 101 to elicit further response.
- Dec 20, '12 by ampiskatorThank you for advice! I know we can't give medical advice on here but I was wondering your opinion. I feel like stress from our Job leads to eating disorders.. Over eating or under eating.
